Abstract
In a motor vehicle with a forward engine and with a heating unit and/or air-conditioning unit 7 held by supporting means in a fixed position, in relation to the vehicle, in the region between the engine compartment and the passenger compartments 1, the said supporting means comprises screening means 12 which extends across the heating and/or air-conditioning unit. The screening means may comprise supporting elements of the vehicle superstructure and bracing members connecting the said elements. Bracing members may be located at or in the wall, of the casing 15 of the said unit, which is towards the passenger compartment. Bracing members may comprise tensioned straps and/or profiled sections. The screening means 12 prevents movement of the heating and/or air-conditioning unit into the passenger compartment in the event of a head-on collision involving rearward movement of the vehicle engine. <IMAGE>
