Abstract

An cable comprising a conductor or conductor strand 2 is surrounded by a closed dense metallic sheath 3 constituted by a longitudinally seam-welded metal tape, which, if necessary, has been drawn down on to an outer layer of the individual elements of the conductor or conductor strand. The cable is also provided with a conductive layer 4, an insulating layer 5, a conductive layer 6, a screen 7 and a flame resistant layer 8 of PVC or rubber. The conductor strand 2 may be replaced by solid or stranded aluminium sectors (9, Fig. 2, not shown). The sheath 3 prevents the ingress of moisture and the growth of "water trees". <IMAGE>
