Abstract

An electrode for implantation in body organs, in particular for stimulation of the heart muscle and for the conduction of body signals, has an insulated electrically conductive electrode lead 1, an electrode head 6, and an anchoring part 3 located on the leads and spaced from the head 6 to which part 3 body tissue may adhere to form an atraumatic anchoring for the electrode. The part 3 may be a woven or non-woven sleeve of artificial fibres, cotton, or silk, fixedly or slidably mounted on the lead 1. Alternatively, the part 3 may be formed by a roughened or porous portion of the insulating sheath 2 of the lead 1. Known traumatic anchoring means, such as hooks or bristles, may be provided to effect anchoring until the body tissue adhesions have formed on the part 3. <IMAGE>
