Abstract

A cutting tool (1) for cutting plants (2) including stalks, especially cane, includes a bar (4). The bar (4) extends over a working width (34) of the cutting tool (1). A knives set (7) is arranged on the bar (4). The knives set (7) includes an upper knife unit (8) and a lower knife unit (9). The upper knife unit (8) includes a plurality of blades (10) including a cutting portion (14). The upper knife unit (8) declines downwardly towards the cutting portion (14). The lower knife unit (9) includes a plurality of blades (12) also including a cutting portion (14). The lower knife unit (9) also downwardly declines towards the cutting portion (14). A plurality of driving elements (18, 19) serves to drive the blades (10, 12) to reciprocate in opposite directions within a cutting region (36). A plurality of guiding elements (27, 28) connects the upper knife unit (8) and the lower knife unit (9) to the bar (4). In a working position of the cutting tool (1), the cutting portions (14) are located at least as low as the lower edge (26) of the bar (4) and the lower edge of the driving elements (18, 19) such that there is a free space (25) being located within the cutting region (36).
