Abstract

The support structure has a cone shape with a larger diameter. The support structure includes a shell-like support member 26, a first mesh layer 28a comprising a thick mesh element, and a second mesh layer 28b having a mesh size that does not allow passage of catalyst particles. The first mesh layer covers the support member and the second mesh layer covers the first mesh layer. The shell-like support member comprises a circular bottom plate 25 vertically arranged at the center line of the reactor 11, and sidewalls 26 having a truncated cone extending upwardly from the edge of the bottom plate. The bottom plate and sidewall are made of a perforated plate having a hole 222 through which the fluid primarily passes. A number of different diameter cylindrical flow guides 27 are provided under the shell-like support member.
