Description
본 발명은 테레프탈산 제조시에 사용되는 용매의 정제 방법에 관한 것으로, 특히 테레프탈산 제조 원료인 파라-자이렌(p-Xylene)의 용매로 사용된 초산의 정제 방법에 관한 것이다.
테레프탈산을 제조하는데 있어서 주 원료인 파라-자이렌의 용매로 초산을 사용하고 있다. 파라-자이렌은 산회되어 테레프탈산을 생성하게 되고 용매와 함께 슬러리 상태로 결정조를 거쳐서 원심 분리기로 투입된다. 이 원심 분리기에서 생성물인 테레프탈산을 따라 분리되어 건조기를 거쳐서 제품화 단계로 들어가게 된다.
한편 원심 분리기에서 분리되어 나온 모액 초산용매를 다시 공정으로 재순환시키기 전에 회수하여 일부는 반응기쪽으로 재순환시키고 일부는 농축시킨후 증기 상태로 하여 반응기 상부에서 나온 증기 혼합물(물 : 초산=30 : 70)과 함께 혼합시켜 초산과 물의 분리 공정 단계로 보내어진다.
이러한 용매의 분리 정제를 위하여 종래에는 일반적으로 물과 용매간의 비점차에 의해 분리하는 증류방식을 사용하여 왔다. 그러나 이러한 증류방식을 사용할 경우 스팀을 비롯한 과다한 에너지의 소모가 불가피하고 과부과 상태의 경우 폐수처리 경비의 과다 지출도 감내해야 하는 등 많은 문제점을 내포하고 있다.
이러한 문제를 해결하기 위해 공비 증류법이라는 증류법이 사용되고 있는데 이는 공비 혼합물을 만들어서 물의 비점을 낮춤으로써 물과 초산의 분리를 쉽게 하는 방법이다. 물과 초산의 경우 공비 증류를 위해 노르말 부틸 아세테이트를 사용하는데 물과 노르말 부틸 아세테이트(NBA)가 공비 혼합물이 되어 비점이 낮아 지게되고(물의 비점 100℃, 물-NBA 공비 혼합물의 비점 90℃, 초산의 비점 118℃). 따라서 초산과 물의 분리가 쉽게 이루어지게 된다.
이와 같은 공비 증류법을 PTA 제조공정에 적용하기 위해 기존 탈수탑에 공급되는 혼합물(물 : 초산=30 : 70)을 공비 증류탑으로 보내어 초산과 물의 분리를 검토한 바 있으나 높은 초산농도(70%) 때문에 기대한 만큼의 분리효과 및 운전코스트의 절감효과를 얻지 못했다.
상기와 같은 종래의 용매 분리법에 있어서의 문제점을 해결하기 위하여 많은 실험을 반복 실시한 결과 반응기에서 나온 용매의 혼합물 중 초산의 농도(70%)가 과도하게 높기 때문이라는 사실을 밝혀내고, 반응기에서 나온 물과 초산의 혼합비율이 30 : 70인 용매 혼합물을 탈수탑으로 유입시켜 탈수탑에서의 초산의 농도가 40-60%인 지점에서 공비 증류탑으로 유입 처리하면 초산과 물의 분리효과가 좋다는 사실을 발견하였다.
이때 초산의 농도를 45-50%로 조절하는 것이 분리 효과 및 운전비 절감 효과가 특히 우수하였다. 탈수탑에서의 초산의 농도를 상기 범위로 조절하는 방법은 본 기술분야에 이용되고 있는 농도 조걸 방법이면 어떠한 방법이라고 이용될 수 있는데 그 중 한가지 방법을 예를 들면 탈수탑 상부에 별도로 배관시설을 하여 물을 유입시켜 농도를 희석시키면서 통상의 농도 측정기로 농도를 측정하여 상기 농도 범위로 조절하는 방법이 있다. 탈수탑에서의 초산의 농도를 상기 농도 범위로 조절한 다음 공비 증류탑으로 유입시켜 노르말 부틸 아세테이트(NBA)를 사용하여 공비 혼합물을 만든후 탑저로부터 농축된 초산을 회수하고 탑정으로부터 물-NBA 공비 혼합물을 회수한다. 물과 NBA는 응축시켜 비중차에 의해서 분리시킬 수 있다. 분리된 NBA는 다시 공비 증류탑으로 보내어져 재사용하고 물을 비롯한 기타의 물질은 새로운 증류탑에서 분리시키고 물을 폐수 처리된다.
이상과 같이 본 발명에 따라서 초산을 분리시키면 분리 속도가 빠르고 분리율이 우수하여 제품의 원가 절감에 크게 기여할 수 있다.
Claims (1)
- 테레프탈산 제조시의 용매로 사용된 초산의 분리 방법에 있어서, 반응기에서 반응생성물과 용매의 혼합물로 분리시킨후 용매의 혼합물(초산농도 70%)를 탈수탑에 이송시키고 초산의 농도를 40-60%로 희석시켜 공비 증류탑으로 이송시킨 다음 노르만 부틸 아세테이트(NBA)를 사용하여 공비 혼합물을 만든 후 탑저로부터 농축된 초산을 회수하고 탑정으로부터 물 - NBA 공비 혼합물을 회수함을 특징으로 하는 테레프탈산 제조공정의 용매 정제법.
