일반적으로 폴리우레탄 인공피혁 표면에 무늬를 염색시키는 방법에는 여러가지 방법이 있다. 먼저, 그라비아롤을 이용하여 표면처리를 하는 방법은 단색으로 아주 단순한 무늬만 가능하여 응용범위가 지나치게 제한되며, 스크린 프린트를 하는 방법은 그라비아롤을 이용하는 방법에 비해서는 무늬와 색상을 발현할 수 있는 범위는 넓지만, 색상수만큼의 프린트 공정이 필요할 뿐 아니라 인접한 부분의 색상이 다른 경우 작업 공정이 까다로와지는 문제점이 있었다. 한편, 프린트를 이용하는 방법은 인공피혁 표면에 대형 프린트를 이용하여 인쇄하는 방법으로서, 일반 광고용 인쇄물을 제작하는 경우에는 널리 사용되나, 가공속도가 지나치게 느려 산업용으로 사용하기에는 생산성에 문제가 있었다.In general, there are various methods of dyeing the pattern on the surface of the polyurethane artificial leather.
