Abstract
Description
도 2는 배향 층 O1 (3a) 및 O2 (3b)의 수직 도를 보여준다. 관찰자 쪽에서 볼 때 O2는 O1의 뒤에 있다. 화살표 (5)는 배향 층 O1의 러빙 방향을 보여준다. 화살표 (6)은 배향 층 O2의 러빙 방향을 보여준다. 부호 (7)은 배향 층 O1과 O2 간의 스위칭가능한 층의 액정 화합물의 트위스트를 보여준다. 이 경우, 액정 화합물은, O1에 대한 계면에서 O1의 러빙 방향에 평행하게 정렬되고 O2에 대한 계면에서 O2의 러빙 방향에 평행하게 정렬되므로, 배향 층 O1과 O2 간의 270°의 회전 각도를 가진 좌선성 나선을 나타낸다.

Claims (24)
- 실내로의 광 유입을 조절하는 장치를 함유하는 윈도우(window)로서,
상기 장치가 하나 이상의 이색성(dichroic) 화합물을 포함하는 액정 매질을 포함하며 12 ㎛ 초과의 두께를 갖는 정확히 하나의 스위치가능한 층 S를 포함하고, 이때
층 S의 두께 d 및 층 S의 액정 매질의 광학 이방성 Δn에 하기 관계식이 적용되며:
d < 0.9 ㎛ / Δn
및
d > 0.2 ㎛ / Δn
층 S의 액정 매질의 분자는, 전압이 인가된 상기 장치의 스위칭 상태에서, 트위스트된 네마틱(twisted nematic) 상태로 존재하고,
스위칭가능한 층 S의 한쪽 측면에 정확히 하나의 배향 층(O1으로 칭함)이 인접하고, 스위칭가능한 층 S의 반대쪽 측면에 정확히 하나의 다른 배향 층(O2로 칭함)이 인접하며,
인가 전압이 없는 상태에서의 수직(homeotropic) 정렬의 경우, 층 S의 액정 매질의 분자의 배향 축이, 배향 층 O1 또는 O2의 면과 89 내지 70°의 각도를 이루고,
상기 액정 매질의 유전 이방성(Δε)이 -3 미만인, 윈도우. - 제 1 항에 있어서,
배향 층 O1 및 O2가 각각, 액정 매질의 분자의 배향 축이 층 S의 인접 영역에서 다르게 정렬되도록 하는 방식으로 설계되는 것을 특징으로 하는, 윈도우. - 제 1 항에 있어서,
배향 층 O1 및 O2의 러빙(rubbing) 방향이 30 내지 270°의 각도를 갖는 것을 특징으로 하는, 윈도우. - 제 1 항에 있어서,
배향 층 O1 및 O2가, 층 S에 인접한 이들의 표면 상에 러빙된 폴리이미드를 갖는 것을 특징으로 하는, 윈도우. - 제 1 항에 있어서,
상기 장치가 편광기(polariser)를 포함하지 않는 것을 특징으로 하는, 윈도우. - 제 1 항에 있어서,
층 S가 13 내지 50 ㎛의 두께를 갖는 것을 특징으로 하는, 윈도우. - 제 1 항에 있어서,
층 S는, 30% 이상의, 유럽 표준 EN410의 식 (1)에 따라 산출되는 명(bright) 상태 광 투과율(τν 명)을 갖는 것을 특징으로 하는, 윈도우. - 제 1 항에 있어서,
층 S가 둘 이상의 상이한 이색성 화합물을 포함하는 것을 특징으로 하는, 윈도우. - 제 1 항에 있어서,
상기 장치가 모든 스위칭 상태에서 볼 때 무색인 것을 특징으로 하는, 윈도우. - 제 1 항에 있어서,
상기 이색성 화합물 중 하나 이상이, 아조 화합물, 안트라퀴논, 메틴 화합물, 아조메틴 화합물, 메로시아닌 화합물, 나프토퀴논, 테트라진, 페릴렌, 테릴렌, 쿼테릴렌, 고급 릴렌(higher rylene), 스쿼레인(squaraine), 벤조티아디아졸, 다이케토피롤로피롤 및 피로메텐으로부터 선택되는 것을 특징으로 하는, 윈도우. - 제 1 항에 있어서,
트위스트된 네마틱 상태에서 층 S의 액정 매질의 분자의 배향 축의 트위스트가, 전체 층 두께에 걸쳐 고려할 때, 135 내지 270°인 것을 특징으로 하는, 윈도우. - 제 1 항에 있어서,
트위스트된 네마틱 상태에서 층 S의 액정 매질의 분자의 배향 축의 트위스트가, 전체 층 두께에 걸쳐 고려할 때, 320° 내지 3회의 완전 회전인 것을 특징으로 하는, 윈도우. - 제 1 항에 있어서,
상기 액정 매질의 광학 이방성(Δn)이 0.075 미만인 것을 특징으로 하는, 윈도우. - 제 1 항에 있어서,
상기 액정 매질이 하나 이상의 키랄 화합물을 0.01 내지 3 중량%의 총 농도로 포함하는 것을 특징으로 하는, 윈도우. - 제 1 항에 있어서,
상기 장치가 광 에너지를 전기 에너지로 전환시키는 장치를 포함하는 것을 특징으로 하는, 윈도우. - 제 1 항에 있어서,
상기 액정 매질의 유전 이방성(Δε)이 -5.5 이하인, 윈도우. - 광투과 표면을 통한 실내(space)로의 빛의 통과를 균일하게 제어하기 위한, 제 1 항 내지 제 16 항 중 어느 한 항에 따른 윈도우의 사용 방법.
