Abstract

PURPOSE: An interactive broadcasting system having a set top box for providing VOD broadcasting information and a method of operating the system are provided to offer VOD broadcasting information to users using the set top box to which a digital subscriber line is connected. CONSTITUTION: An interactive broadcasting system having a set top box for providing VOD broadcasting information includes a VOD service server(40), a set top box for an exchange system, and a set top box(10). The VOD service server generates VOD broadcasting information and converts the information into a streaming format to transmit the information to a user terminal in multi-casting or uni-casting mode. The set top box for the exchange system receives the VOD broadcasting information through a data communication network to transmit the information to the user terminal and sends demand request information from the user terminal to the VOD service server. The set top box receives the VOD broadcasting information to decode the information, outputs the decoded information to the user terminal, and transmits the demand request information to the set top box for the exchange system.
