Abstract

PURPOSE:To use a dental floss not only in interdental cleaning but also in the prevention and treatment of gingivitis or pyorrhoea and the prevention of a carious tooth, by a method wherein a drug for periodontics is infiltrated in or adhered to a water- absorbable floss main body having unevenness on the surface thereof like fibers or Japanese paper. CONSTITUTION:Since a strip like floss main body 1 composed of a fibrous material such as gauze or water resistant Japanese paper is used in such a way that both end parts of the floss main body cut into a definite length are inserted between teeth and massage is applied to said teeth, it is important to provide tensile strength to said floss main body. The floss main body pref. has water absorbability for attaining the easiness of the adhesion or impregnation of a coating agent or the penetratability of said coating agent and an uneven part 2 of a certain degree for enhancing the massage effect of a tooth or gingiva. Next, a dental drug such as a dental etchant, a dental hemostatic agent, a gingiva massage agent, a periodontal disease treatment agent or a drug for periodontics is infiltrated in or adhered to the floss main body. By this constitution, the optimum effect can be expected not only in the removal of food residuum between teeth or gingiva massage but also in the prevention or treatment of pyorrhoea or gingivitis.

Conventionally, when it comes to cleaning between the teeth, it is common to use a toothbrush to clean them after meals or before going to bed, or to use so-called toothpicks to remove food particles and the like that have stuck between the teeth. Furthermore, interdental cleaning floss can be mentioned as another method used for interdental cleaning. For interdental cleaning floss, for example, silk is usually used as the material to improve slippage during use, and the floss is made into a string. When using this, cut the silk thread to an appropriate length, hold both ends of the silk thread with the fingers of both hands, insert it between the teeth to be cleaned, use the fingers of both hands to move the silk thread back and forth, and from side to side, and use a toothbrush to brush the thread. It attempts to remove food particles that are stuck between the teeth, which are difficult to remove. The present inventor has corrected the drawbacks and problems of the conventionally used thread-like silk flock for interdental cleaning, and has created a new method for people who have considerable space between their teeth. We have already offered cloth-like floss instead of thread-like floss. This technique not only removes dirt between the teeth, but also uses the unevenness of the cloth to simultaneously provide a pine surge effect on the teeth and gums.

FIG. 1 shows an example of a dental floss according to the present invention. As for the characteristics of the floss body (], ), it is preferable that it has water absorbency and smooths out the unevenness (2) to some extent (see Fig. 2). The water absorbency is determined by the ease with which the coating agent (described below) adheres to and impregnates the floss body (1) and the floss body (1).
This is to ensure the permeability of the liniment to 1) to achieve and maintain its medicinal effect during use. In addition, the purpose of forming a certain degree of unevenness (2) on the surface of the floss body (1) is to enhance the pine surge effect when pine surgging teeth and gums. Completely removes stains and eliminates causes such as tooth decay. By forming the uneven portions (2), food particles and the like can easily adhere to the recessed portions. This kind of thing was completely unthinkable with the conventional single thread-like fluorocarbon.

From this purpose, the floss body (1
) Determine the material to be used. In other words, the uneven portion (2)
, and water absorption is required, so fibers such as gauze that constitute cloth-like materials and materials such as Japanese paper that are resistant to water are suitable for use. Next, the shape of the floss body (1) will be explained. The floss body (1) has a band shape. The width can be determined as appropriate, but it needs to be at least slightly wider than the height of the tooth. If you prepare a piece of floss that is two or three times wider than the height of your teeth, if you have a gap between your teeth, you can fold it double or triple in the longitudinal direction to reduce the pine surge effect. (See Figures 4 and 5). That is, the dental floss according to the present invention is
The purpose is not just to clean between the teeth, but to treat and prevent diseases associated with the tooth surface and gums, so the intensity of the pine surge and the duration of use when using floss is important. It is necessary to make appropriate decisions depending on the medical condition of the person using the floss, but in any case, it is important to select the material of the floss and specify the shape. In addition, as shown in Fig. 3, the floss body (1)
Reinforcement parts (3
), when used by people with close spaces between their teeth,
The floss main body (1) can be easily inserted into the interdental area, and interdental pine surgery can be easily achieved in the interdental area. To explain the degree of strength of the floss body (1), the floss body (1) according to the present invention is used by holding both ends of the floss cut to a certain length with the fingers of both hands, and After insertion, the floss body (1) is moved back and forth and left and right to perform pine surge, so it is important for the floss body (1) itself to have enough tensile strength to withstand pulling from the left and right without breaking. It also has flexibility and elasticity, making it suitable for use anywhere in the oral cavity. The next important thing is to determine the coating agent to be applied to the thus determined floss body (1).

In addition, the floss is shaped like a wide band and has a certain degree of unevenness on its surface, so it can be used equally by people who have close spaces between their teeth and those who don't. As a result, the pine surge effect itself is enhanced, and the drug efficiently penetrates into the gums, etc., and the therapeutic effect can be dramatically improved. In addition, the fingers of both hands holding the floss have a textured texture compared to conventional thread-like ones, so there is no need to worry about the hand holding the floss slipping or coming loose. To easily and completely perform pine surge at any location.
