[Detailed description of the invention] The present invention relates to an improvement of a female terminal. The mating terminal has an improved spring-like contact part of the female terminal which elastically receives a male contact part, and its electrical connection performance is improved. This is intended to improve stability.

With the trend toward smaller terminals in recent years, the spring-like contact part (hereinafter referred to as spring contact part) in female terminals has become smaller.
It is inevitable that the spring constant will gradually increase, and when a male contact part is accepted, there is a problem that the contact load will be insufficient and the electrical connection performance will be impaired.

In other words, due to the above-mentioned trend toward miniaturization, the spring contact portion that constitutes the female terminal is also inevitably miniaturized, and the spring characteristics tend to be smaller in the amount of deflection for the same load, higher in spring constant, and more rigid. It's unavoidable.
Therefore, for example, as shown in FIG. 1, the side plate portions 3A,
In the female terminal 1, the female terminal 1 has a spring contact part 2 which is curved in a convex shape and is arranged to face each other so as to be flexible, and which receives and snaps a plate-shaped male contact part (not shown) between the side plate parts 3A and 3B. Due to the unavoidable variations in the gap C between the side plate parts 3A and 3B due to the manufacturing process, as well as the dimensional variations in the male contact part, when the two are fitted together, there is a considerable fit variation due to the combination of the above-mentioned dimensional variations. That is, the amount of deflection of the side plate portions 3A, 3B changes. Therefore, when the spring constant of the side plate parts 3A and 3B increases due to the above-mentioned trend toward miniaturization, the change in the amount of deflection due to the above-mentioned fitting variation is compounded, and the male contact with the spring contact part 2 increases. The contact load with the terminal may fluctuate more than necessary, resulting in a terminal connection that cannot meet the minimum contact load required for electrical connection performance.

As shown in FIG. 6, the spring contact part 2 having the above structure has a cantilever-shaped thin plate spring body spring contact piece 12 having different fixed ends 11 and 14 and a spring piece 8 having free ends 13 and 9, respectively. When the male contact part is inserted into the apex 15 at the lower center end of the spring contact piece 12, the upward load P acts as an external force, resulting in a composite spring body structure.
Therefore, the total amount of deflection Y of the spring contact portion 2 due to the load P
is the composite amount of the respective deflection amounts of the spring contact piece 12 and the spring piece 8, and compared with a conventional spring contact part with a single spring body with fixed ends, the spring contact part 2 of the present invention has a significantly lower spring resistance. As the constant becomes smaller, elasticity can be increased. Using plates of the same material and thickness to form spring contact parts of the same size, the spring characteristics of the conventional product and the product of the present invention are as shown in Figure 7, and the spring constant of the present product is The load variation of the invented product for the same deflection variation Y
P 1 is approximately 1/2 of the load fluctuation amount P 2 of the conventional product.

As described above, when using the female terminal with the spring contact portion of the present invention, even if there is unavoidable dimensional variation between the female terminal and the male terminal due to the construction method, the maximum and minimum of the variation can be combined. In the case of fitting variations between the male and female terminals, the amount of variation in the contact load between the male terminal and the spring contact portion 2, which correlates with the amount of deflection variation of the spring contact portion 2, remains within an extremely small range, and the contact load is extremely stable. Therefore, at the upper and lower limits of the fitting variation, the contact load necessary for electrical connection performance can be fully satisfied, and the connection performance of the terminal can be well stabilized.
