Abstract
PURPOSE:To provide a title recording medium which allows execution of initialization and erasing at a high speed and is high in the stability of recording and the recording level by forming a recording layer of an alloy having a specific compsn. CONSTITUTION:This recording medium has a substrate 11 and the recording layer 13 which is reversibly changed in phase between different crystal phases when a light beam is projected thereto. The recording layer 13 is formed of the alloy having the compsn. expressed by the formula In50-xSb50-xM2x (x is in a range shown by 0<x<7.5, M is at least one kind of the elements selected from Ag, Pt, Pd, Ni and Si). The element expressed by M has a high crystallization rate and phase change speed and the high crystallization rate of an InSb intermetallic compd. is high. The initialization and erasing are thereby speeded up and since the difference in optical characteristics such as reflectivity is large between the two phases, the recording level is high; in addition, the recording marks are crystals and, therefore, the recorded information is extremely stable.
