Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain the titled compound in high yield useful as an intermediate for a raw material of polyurethane, etc., by reacting a carbanilate with a specific oxymethylene biscarboxylate in the presence of a sulfonic acid.
CONSTITUTION: A carbanilate shown by the formula I (R is 1W4C alkyl or phenyl; X, Y, and Z are H, halogen, nitro, etc.) is reacted with an oxymethylene biscarboxylate shown by the formula II (R1 and R2 are 1W9C alkyl; n is 1W3), to give a methylene dicarbanilate shown by the formula III or formula IV. The reaction is carried out in the presence of a sulfonic acid, e.g., methanesulfonic acid. The amount of the sulfonic acid used is 0.01W50mol% based on carbanilate. The prepared methylene dicarbanilate is especially useful as an intermediate for 4,4'-diphenylmethane-diisocyanate.
