Abstract

PURPOSE:To perform magnetic transfer with high density by applying a magnetic field while bringing the 2nd magnetic recording medium into contact with the 1st magnetic recording medium where a signal is generated in the rugged form by irradiating a magnetic or nonmagnetic material layer with modulated laser beam. CONSTITUTION:After optical modulation 12 by a signal 13, laser beam from a laser oscillator 11 is passed through a semicylindrical lens 14 to shape the circular beam into an elliptic beam, which is focused by a lens 15 to illuminate the magnetic layer 3 of a recording medium 1, thus forming ruggedness which corresponds to the signal 13. The 2nd magnetic recording medium 4 which has a flat magnetic material layer 6 on a base layer 5 is brought into contact with the recording medium 1 so that the magnetic material layers 3 and 6 are opposed to each other. Magnetic poles 7 and 8 are opposed to each other on both sides and a DC magnetic field is applied to move recording media 1 and 4 in track directions 9 and 10. Consequently, signals are transferred magnetically from the recording medium 1 to 4 with high density, and those signals are reproduced by a normal reproducing device.
