Abstract
PURPOSE:To eliminate the waste of atmospheric gas as well as to attain energy conservation by raising heat efficiency by supplying different compositions of atmospheric gases to each of the heating and soaking zone, preheating, and cooling zone of a heating furnace at the heating of a metal. CONSTITUTION:The metal material 1 to be heated is passed through the preheating zone 3, the heating and soaking zone 4, and the cooling zone 5 of a heating furnace for heat treatment and then taken out of the furnace. In the preheating zone 3, because the metal material 1 is of a low temperature such that no chance of oxidation occurs, an atmospheric gas with the composition H2<=3% and CO2<=97%, having a high temperature resulting from the cooling of the metal material 1 in the cooling zone 5, a high thermal conductivity, and a high heat capacity per unit volume, is used. Then, the preheated metal material 1 is put in the heating and soaking zone 4 and heated by the heater 7, where an atomspheric gas with the composition CO+H2<4-8%, CO2 10-13%, and the remnant N2 is used in order to avoid the oxidation and decarburization of the metal material 1. The atmospheric gas for the cooling zone 5 is the gas recycled from the preheating zone 3.
