Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain a vegetable polysaccharide sulfate ester, which has an anticoagulant and an antilipemic action and is useful as pharmaceuticals, by sulfating a vegetable polysaccharide.
CONSTITUTION: A vegetable polysaccharide, obtained from a vegetable gum is sulfated. The sulfation is commonly carried out by reacting the vegetable polysaccharide with chlorosulfonic acid. Gum arabic and tragacanth are advantageous in view of availability, etc., as the vegetable gum. Each vegetable gum contains a vegetable polysaccharide corresponding to its own kind. For example, gum arabic contains arabic (arabic acid) and gum tragacanth contains tragacanth (tragacanthic acid).
