Abstract
PURPOSE:To lower the starting voltage of lamp as well as lessen the blacking of tube end portion by using an electron-radiating substance containing alkaline earth metal oxides including at least barium oxide, lanthanum oxide, and yttrium oxide. CONSTITUTION:An electrode for discharge lamp is formed by coating an electrode base with an electron-radiating substance containing alkaline earth metal oxides including at least barium oxide, lanthanum oxide, and yttrium oxide. In this case, the preferred molar ratio of lanthanum oxide to yttrium oxide is 1:9 to 19:1, and also the whole amount of these is 1 to 30mol%. The combined use of lanthanum oxide with yttrium oxide having a high heat resistance even when used solely both forming mixed crystals or double compound which serves to enhance the radiation of electrons enables the starting voltage of lamp to lower, the deterioration of luminous flux to lessen, and the blacking of the tube end portion to lessen.
