Abstract
PURPOSE:To obtain a grid with light weight and high mechanical strength by expanding or punching a glass-lead composite sheet, in which glass fibers and lead are combined, to form a grid. CONSTITUTION:A glass fiber tape 2 which has been pre-treated by dipping in a heated sodium metal bath so as to be wettable with lead is draw from a coil 1 and led to an alloying furnace 3. In the furnace 3, the glass fiber tape 2 is dipped in a molten lead bath 4 heated at 350-360 deg.C to form a lead-sodium alloy layer on the surface of the glass fiber tape 2. The tape 2 is led to coating equipment 5 which comprises a container 6 for molten lead 4, burner 7, drum 8 and etc. to apply lead on the glass fiver tape 2', the tape 2'' which is provided with lead of a desired thickness is processed with finishing rolls 9 to smoothen the surfaces and control finely the thickness, and then led to a grid making machine 11 to expand and punch the same to form networks as a grid.
