Abstract

PURPOSE:To make a device have an input function and a display function by a simple operation, by detecting a variation of quantity of light which is received by a photodetecting element provided in the panel, when a contact means has contacted with a light emission display segment which is provided in a light emission display panel. CONSTITUTION:A light emission display segment 25 consisting of a light emission diode LED, and a photodetecting element 26 are fixed on the upper surface of a substrate 27 of a light emission display panel 21, and a glass plate 28 is places at a prescribed distance from the substrate 27. In a display state, a light beam from the segment 25 passes through the glass plate 28 as indicated with an arrow 29, and displays character information. When a user's finger 22 is placed on a specific display element 24, an optical beam from the segment 25 is reflected by the glass plate 28 at the lower side of the finger 22, is projected into the photodetecting element 26 as indicated with an arrow 30, is detected as a variation of quantity of light of the element 26, and a character at the part which has been pushed with a finger is read through the controlling circuit. In this way, the device is possible to have a display function and an input function without requiring special input means.
