Abstract
NEW MATERIAL:5-Substituted picolinic acid ester and amide of formula I [R1= C2-6 lower alkyl containing Cl, Br, I or F, substituted phenyl of formula II (R3, R4=H, halogen, lower alkyl, lower alkoxy, nitro, amino, etc.); R2=C1-5 lower alkoxy, aminoalkoxy, phenoxy, substituted phenoxy, 5-indanyloxy, etc.
EXAMPLE: 5-(4-Chlorobutoxy)-picolinic acid indanyl ester.
USE: Hypotensive agent having low toxicity and useful for the treatment of hypertension.
PROCESS: A compound of formula I is obtained by the reaction of, e.g. 5-substituted picolinic acid of formula III (M=H, metallic atom) or its salt with C1-5 aliphatic alcohol, phenol, substituted phenol, 5-indanol, or amino of formula IV (R7, R8=H, lower alkyl, etc.) in the presence of an acidic catalyst or a condensation agent.
