Abstract

NEW MATERIAL:A halophenoxy-phenoxypentenoic acid derivative of formula I (R is alkyl, haloalkyl, alkenyl, alkynyl).
EXAMPLE: 4-[4-(4-bromo-2-chlorophenoxy)phenoxy]-2-pentenoic acid ethyl ester.
USE: Herbicide especially effective to true grass weeds such as cockspur-grass, tainubie, large crab-grass, Johnson grass, etc. and nevertheless harmless to wheat, barley, etc.
PROCESS: The compound I is prepared by reacting 4-(2-chloro-4-bromophenoxy) phenol with a pentenoic acid derivative of formula II (X is halogen) in the presence of a base.
