Abstract
PURPOSE: The iron base sliding member which is provided with galling resistance and compressive strength resistance under severe conditions by impregnating the specific amount of tin or tin alloy in the pores of the iron base sintered alloy.
CONSTITUTION: The low melting point alloy of a melting point below 350°C containing tin or tin alloy at 10wt% or more is impregnated in the pores of an iron base sintered body to let the hard layer of the iron-tin compound in which part of the impregnated tin and part of the sintered body base metal have reacted be formed and contained. This yields the material which is superior in compressive strength resistance, has good wettability and has superior sliding characteristic even under the severe conditions where the formation of lubricating oil films is not sufficient.
