Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a copolymer, suitable for a variety of moldings, excellent in heat resistance, impact resistance and weldability, by polymerizing propylene with a specified olefin, in such a manner as enhancing the nonhomogeneity of the primary structure of the polymer.
CONSTITUTION: A propylene copolymer of highly nonhomogeneous primary structure and of intrinsic viscosity 0.5W15dl/g at 135°C in decalin, which has at least one peak ≥150°C on the melting curve obtained by a differential scanning calorimeter, or in which the heat of fusion of the portion, melting at a temperature ≤140°C, based on the melting curve, and that at ≥150°C, are each at least 5% based on the total of the heat of fusion, is obtained, by copolymerizing propylene, with 2W 90wt% of a 5W12C branched α-olefin or styrene (derivative) and, if necessary, with 0W8wt% of a 2W12C linear α-olefin other than propylene, at such conditions that the ratio of the monomer concentration is varied within a specified range, in the polymerization.
