Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve the safety of nighttime running in automobiles, etc. by masking the mirror by using a liquid crystal cell at the incidence of strong light concerning the back mirror of an automobile or the like.
CONSTITUTION: The mirror part 1 of the back mirror of an automobile consists of a transparent covering body 13, a liquid crystal cell 15 sandwiched by polarizing filters 14, 14A and a mirror body 16 and the printed plate 17 mounted with IC circuit for driving the cell 15 and other electrical parts is provided to the back of the mirror body 16. When strong light enters the mirror part 1 from the headlight of the automobile behind, it is detected by the photosensor 5 provided near the mirror part 1 and when the value thereof becomes over the fixed value, the cell 15 is driven to mask the mirror body 16. In this way, the masking is done automatically.
