Abstract

PURPOSE: To achieve a low-profile disk storage device. CONSTITUTION: A housing in which a head disk assembly is incorporated is to be electrically connected with a card 3 equipped with an electronic control circuit. For this purpose, a substrate 4 of the housing is provided with a first connector 9; a second connector 10 is provided in a through hole 3e made in the card 3, being projected from both opening ends of the through hole 3e, and both connectors are engaged. Consequently, the whole disk storage device can be made thinner by the thickness of the card.

2. Description of the Related Art A magnetic disk storage device has a housing in which the environment such as dust is controlled, in which a magnetic disk, a spin motor for rotating the magnetic disk at a high speed of several thousand revolutions per minute, Signal conversion head for writing or reading data by flying above the magnetic disk at a height of about sub-micron, and to the desired recording track arranged at sub-micron intervals on the magnetic disk. The actuator precision equipment to be positioned is stored to protect it from the dusty environment in the outside world. Electronic circuits that control these devices (electronic circuits that control writing and reading of data on the magnetic disk via the signal conversion head, electronic circuits that control the movement of the actuator and spin motors that rotate the magnetic disk The electronic circuit (including the controlling electronic circuit) is mounted on a card mounted outside the housing because of heat generation, connection with the outside, space, etc.

Therefore, an electrical connection structure between the housing and the card is required for transmitting and receiving signals and supplying electric power between the device mounted in the housing and the card mounted with the control electronic circuit. This connection structure requires thinning and downsizing as the magnetic disk storage itself becomes thinner and smaller, and the workability of assembling the magnetic disk storage is
This also affects productivity and must be taken into consideration.

An example of the conventional electrical connection structure between the housing and the card is US Pat. No. 5,025,3.
There is one shown in No. 36. This is provided on the card outside the housing by taking out the actuator inside the housing, the signal conversion head, and the cable (flexible circuit) electrically connected to the spin motor from the outside of the housing through the gap between the cover and the substrate that make up the housing. It is to be connected to the connector. In such a configuration, taking out the cable may impair the airtightness of the housing, and thus it may not be possible to maintain a controlled environment in the housing. Further, if the connector is provided on the surface of the card facing the housing, at least the housing and the card must be separated by the height of the connector, and the overall thickness of the disk storage device cannot be reduced. It may be possible to secure a space for housing the connector by denting the wall of the housing facing the connector on the card, but the shape of the housing becomes complicated, and interference between the housing wall and devices inside the housing is also a problem. Become.

Another conventional example is US Pat. No. 4,96.
5,684 and PCT International Publication No. WO91 / 0234
There is one shown in No. 9. Electrical connection between the inside and the outside of the housing is made through pins that are embedded in the substrate of the housing and project inward and outward. Through this pin, the actuator in the housing, the signal conversion head, and the spin motor are electrically connected to the connector provided on the card outside the housing. This connection structure has the advantage of ensuring airtightness within the housing. However, also in this case, it is necessary to separate the card and the housing by the height of the connector, and it is not possible to reduce the thickness of the entire disk device. Also,
Similarly, it is conceivable to dent the wall of the housing facing the connector to secure a space for accommodating the connector, but interference between the housing wall and a device inside the housing similarly poses a problem.

Next, description will be made with reference to FIGS. 1 and 4. FIG. 4 is a view of the substrate 4 and the card 3 as seen from below in FIG. The card 3 is a printed circuit board having a circuit pattern (not shown), and the electronic circuit component 12 is mainly mounted on the main surface of the housing 2 of the card 3 that does not face the board 4. Therefore, no height is placed between the card 3 and the substrate 4 of the housing 2 so that the gap between the card 4 and the housing 2 is made as small as possible. Further, a circular opening 3a is provided in the center of the card 3, and the spin motor 16 protruding from the lower part of the substrate 4
The card 3 is mounted so that the bottom of the a penetrates the card 3 as close to the substrate 4 of the housing 2 as possible. The card 3 is provided with a screw hole 3c for attaching the card 3 to the substrate 4 of the housing 2.
A connector 3b for connecting to the system is provided at one end of the card 3, and a notch 3d around which a boss 4a for mounting a disk storage device, which is provided around the substrate 4, is projected is provided at the periphery.

In this embodiment, a substantially rectangular through hole 3e is provided at the portion of the card 3 facing the first connector 9. As shown in FIGS. 5 and 6, the substantially rectangular parallelepiped second connector 10 is provided in the through hole 3e.
Are arranged so as to project from both open ends. The pin terminal row 9b of the first connector 9 is inserted into the portion of the second connector 10 that protrudes from the opening end of the through hole 3e on the side of the housing 2 that faces the substrate 4 (lower side in FIG. 6) to establish electrical connection. The female terminal 10a (see FIG. 1) to be performed is open. The female terminal 10a is electrically connected to a printed circuit pattern (not shown) of the card 3 at the portion of the second connector 10 protruding from the opening end of the through hole 3e on the side not facing the substrate 4 (upper side in FIG. 6). The terminal 10b for this purpose extends so as to be orthogonal to the direction of the through hole 3e, and is engaged with the edge of the through hole 3e of the card 3. The second connector 10 is attached to the card 3 by soldering the terminals 10b to a printed circuit pattern (not shown).

As can be seen from FIG. 6, the connector 10
Is projected from the surface of the card 3 by an amount obtained by subtracting the thickness h of the card 3 from the height H of the main body of the connector 10. This makes it possible to reduce the thickness of the entire device by the thickness h of the card 3 as compared with mounting the connector 10 on the surface of the card 3. Only a part of the height H of the main body of the connector 10 projects to the board 4 side (lower side in FIG. 6) of the housing 2, so that the card 3 can be mounted close to the board 4 of the housing 2. Board 4 side of connector 10 (lower side of FIG. 6)
It is not preferable to set the protrusion height to 0 to 0 because the card 3 and the substrate 4 may come into contact with each other and the insulation between the card 3 and the substrate 4 may not be maintained. Therefore, the connector 1
The protrusion height of 0 toward the substrate 4 side (lower side in FIG. 6) is always necessary. Also, since many electronic components 12 are mounted on the surface of the card 3 on the side not facing the substrate 4 (upper side in FIG. 6), it is preferable that the terminal 10b for circuit connection of the connector 10 is provided on this side. .. Therefore, the terminal 10b is locked to the peripheral edge of the through hole 3e and positioned so that the terminal 10b can be soldered to a printed circuit pattern (not shown) so that the through hole 3e
It is preferable that the connector 10 is provided so as to extend at a right angle to the direction (4), and for this reason, the connector 10 also protrudes to a side not facing the substrate 4 (upper side in FIG. 6) to some extent.

, The electrical connection between the inside of the housing 2 and the card 3 can be facilitated. Then, signals can be exchanged and electric power can be supplied between the electronic circuit of the card 3 and the electronic device in the housing 2 without impairing the airtightness of the housing 2.
