ただし、hは前記ハニカム体の軸方向における孔の配置間隔であり、pは前記軸方向に対して直交する方向であって、かつ、箔に沿う方向における孔の配置間隔である。
図1は触媒コンバータ1の斜視図である。触媒コンバータ1は、平箔2と波箔3を巻きまわしてなるハニカム体4と、当該ハニカム体4の外周面を囲む外筒5とを有する触媒担持用基材において、触媒をハニカム体4に担持させることによって構成されている。平箔2及び波箔3には、耐熱合金からなる金属箔を用いることができる。金属箔の膜厚は、好ましくは20μmから100μmである。波箔3は、金属製の平箔を例えばコルゲート加工することによって製造することができる。
金属箔の箔厚は50μmに設定した。外筒の肉厚は1.5mmに設定した。平箔及び波箔を重ね合わせた状態で巻き回すことにより、直径50mm、長さ80mm、セル密度1インチあたり300セルのハニカム体を得た。

Claims (6)
- 金属製の平箔と波箔を巻き回し、あるいは積層してなるハニカム体とその外周面を囲む金属外筒との少なくとも一部を接合してなる触媒担持用基材において,
前記平箔と波箔には、厚さ方向に貫通する複数の円形の孔が互いに連接することなく離間して形成されており、前記複数の孔は,以下の条件式(1)を満足することを特徴とする触媒担持用基材。

ただし、hは前記ハニカム体の軸方向における孔の配置間隔であり、pは前記軸方向に対して直交する方向であって、かつ、箔に沿う方向における孔の配置間隔であり、前記波箔におけるh及びpは、前記波箔の母材である平箔の状態で計測したときの値である。 - 前記h/pの平均値が1.2以上であることを特徴とする請求項1に記載の触媒担持用基材。
- 各孔の孔径が0.2mm以上、6.0mm以下であることを特徴とする請求項1又は2に記載の触媒担持用基材。
- 各孔の孔径が0.2mm以上、4.0mm以下であることを特徴とする請求項1又は2に記載の触媒担持用基材。
- 前記孔の開口率は、20%以上であることを特徴とする請求項1乃至4のうちいずれか一つに記載の触媒担持用基材。
- 請求項1乃至5のうちいずれか一つに記載の触媒担持用基材と、
前記ハニカム体に担持される触媒と、
を有することを特徴とする触媒コンバータ。
