図4においてクランク軸▲1▼を回転させるとスライダー▲2▼がスプラインの歯を通じてリム内軸F▲9▼を回転させる。リム内軸M▲8▼の中の爪▲11▼(図6参照)にリム内軸F▲9▼の歯がかかってリム内軸M▲8▼をまわし、図4のリム内軸M▲8▼とボルトで接合されたリム▲13▼が回転する。
リムは後輪とスポーク等でつながり後輪がクランク一回転と同じ一回転で駆動される。その結果、坂道等を登るときに向いた低速回転駆動が可能となる。
図3においてペダル▲7▼を回転するとギアホルダー軸押さえ▲17▼の溝に右ペダルのアームが当り、ギアホルダー軸押さえ▲17▼に回転を伝える(図3の断面BB−BB参照)。このときクランク軸▲1▼も回転するがスライダー▲2▼のスプライン歯とは噛み合ってないので左ペダルの回転力はクランク軸▲1▼を通じてギアホルダー軸押さえ▲17▼に伝わり、左右のペダル回転力をギアホルダー軸押さえ▲17▼に伝えることとなる。ギアホルダー軸押さえ▲17▼はギアホルダー▲14▼とボルトで接合され、ギアホルダー▲14▼に取り付けられた遊星ギア▲4▼を回転させる。遊星ギア▲4▼は、遊星ギア軸▲6▼上と内歯▲5▼の内面を回転しながら、太陽ギア▲3▼を回転駆動する。(図5参照)
太陽ギア▲3▼はその内径に設けられたスプラインの歯を通じてスライダー▲2▼を回転させ、ペダル回転数の数倍(図5の場合は3倍)の増速比でスライダー▲2▼経由リム内軸F▲9▼、爪▲11▼、リム内軸M▲8▼,リム▲13▼をえて後輪(図1参照)を回転駆動する。その結果、平地を走行するときの高速回転駆動が可能となる。
なお、内歯▲5▼は内歯フランジ▲15▼と内歯対フランジ▲18▼に内蔵固定され自転車フレームに固定されている(図2参照)。爪バネ▲11▼はペダル回転を停めた時に後輪が惰性で回転する様に爪▲11▼をリム内軸M▲8▼に内包する為の物である。(図6参照)
図7において、スライダー▲2▼の軸方向の移動はクラッチ内筒▲12▼の先端の爪(図7断面GG参照)がスライダー▲2▼の内径側の溝に嵌っており、クラッチ内筒▲12▼の鍔をシフトレバーで左右に動かして行う。シフトレバーの左右動はハンドルに設けたレバーとワイヤ等で一般の自転車と同様に行う。][Figure 1 shows the configuration of a bicycle without a chain, Figure 2 shows that the drive is provided on the rear wheel, and FIG. 3 shows a cross section of the drive. The sun gear {circle over (3)} rotates the slider {circle around (2)} through the spline teeth provided on the inner diameter of the sun gear {3}, and the rim via the slider {circle around (2)} has a speed increasing ratio several times the pedal rotation speed (three times in the case of FIG. 5). The rear wheel (see FIG. 1) is rotationally driven with the inner shaft F <9>, the claw <11>, the rim inner shaft M <8>, and the rim <13>. The internal tooth (5) is built in and fixed to the internal gear flange (15) and the internal gear pair flange (18) and fixed to the bicycle frame (see FIG. 2).
