約60重量%のグリコリド、約14重量%のジオキサノン、および約26重量%のトリメチレンカーボネートを含んだポリマーからフィルムを作製した。ポリマーペレットを加熱液圧プレス機(Carver Laboratory Press、Model 2626)内に置いた。このプレス機を約125℃から約165℃の温度に加熱した。得られるフィルムの厚さを制御するためのスチールシムとともに、このペレットをテフロン(登録商標)コートスチールプレートの中央に置いた。このペレットを融解させ、プレート全体にわたって散布させ、約100psi未満の圧力をこのポリマー融解物にかけた。装置全体を、プレートを通して水を流すことによってクラッシュ冷却した(crash cooled)。約0.002インチから約0.012インチの厚さを有するフィルムを得た。このフィルムは多方向配向を有していた。
約17重量%のカプロラクトン、約7重量%のラクチド、約7重量%のトリメチレンカーボネートおよび約69重量%のグリコリドを有するランダムコポリマーを利用することによってフィルムを作製した。このコポリマーを、3/4インチの汎用押出機からスリットダイを通して押し出した。厚いテープを作製した。所望の厚さを有するフィルムを作製するための適切なシムとともに、得られたテープを実施例1で上述した液圧熱プレス機内のテフロン(登録商標)コートスチールプレート上に置いた。この熱プレス機を、約105℃から約120℃の温度に加熱し、約100psi未満の圧力をかけた。ペレットを利用して実施例1で作製したフィルムと同様に、この方法によって作製されたフィルムは、約0.002インチから0.012インチの厚さを有していた。押し出したフィルムは、実施例1のペレットより低い程度の結晶構造を有していたので、より低温を使用することによって、ポリマー流動を生じさせることができた。このフィルムは多方向配向を有していた。
インフレーションフィルム法を使用して、実施例2で上述したポリマーを用いてフィルムを作製した。スクリュー/樽形容器構造と、外部加熱素子を装着したジャケットとを有する押出機(Randcastle Extrusion System、Inc.、Cedar Grove、New Jersey)中にポリマーペレットを導入した。この樽形容器は、3つの異なる温度で維持された3つのゾーンを有し、ゾーン1は、樽形容器の部分に最も近く、この中にポリマーペレットを導入し、ゾーン2は、樽形容器の中央部分であり、ゾーン3は、樽形容器の端部であり、ここからポリマーを押し出した。樽形容器の長さ/直径比は、24対1であり、樽形容器内部に3/4インチのスクリューを有していた。約1.25インチの直径を有するダイは、樽形容器の端部に位置し、これを通してポリマー融解物を押し出した。
