Description
セル面積率(%)=最外周部パーシャルセルの面積/完全セルの面積×100 (1)

コージェライトからなる多孔質のハニカム構造体本体(長さ:152mm、外径:144mm、隔壁厚さ:300μm、セル形状:正方形、セル密度:300cpsi)の最外周部パーシャルセルと完全セルとの一端部に、ハニカム構造体の端面が市松模様を呈するような目封止パターンで目封止部が形成された目封止ハニカム構造体であって、完全セルにおける目封止部の深さを3mm以上とし、最外周部パーシャルセルにおける目封止部の深さを3mm未満としたものを作製した。なお、目封止部の材質は、ハニカム構造体本体と同じコージェライトである。この目封止ハニカム構造体について、後述する方法により、アイソスタティック破壊強度の測定、強制再生試験及び急加熱急冷却試験を実施した。
実施例1で使用したものと同じハニカム構造体本体の完全セルの一端部に、ハニカム構造体の端面が市松模様を呈するような目封止パターンで深さ3mm以上の目封止部が形成され、同ハニカム構造体本体の最外周部パーシャルセルの内、前述の式(1)により求められるセル面積率が5%未満のものについては、その全長に渡って閉塞されるようハニカム構造体本体の外周壁と一体的に形成され、セル面積率が30%を超えるものについては、前記目封止パターンにしたがってその一端部に深さ3mm未満の目封止部が形成され、セル面積率が5%以上30%以下のものについては、その全長に渡って閉塞されるよう前記外周壁と一体的に形成されたものと、前記目封止パターンにしたがってその一端部に深さ3mm未満の目封止部が形成されたものとが混在した状態となっている目封止ハニカム構造体を作製した。なお、目封止部の材質は、ハニカム構造体本体と同じコージェライトである。この目封止ハニカム構造体について、後述する方法により、アイソスタティック破壊強度の測定、強制再生試験及び急加熱急冷却試験を実施した。
実施例1で使用したものと同じハニカム構造体本体の最外周部パーシャルセルと完全セルとの一端部に、ハニカム構造体の端面が市松模様を呈するような目封止パターンで、ともに深さ3mmの目封止部が形成された目封止ハニカム構造体を作製した。なお、目封止部の材質は、ハニカム構造体本体と同じコージェライトである。この目封止ハニカム構造体について、後述する方法により、アイソスタティック破壊強度の測定、強制再生試験及び急加熱急冷却試験を実施した。
実施例1で使用したものと同じハニカム構造体本体の最外周部パーシャルセルと完全セルとの一端部に、ハニカム構造体の端面が市松模様を呈するような目封止パターンで目封止部が形成された目封止ハニカム構造体であって、完全セルにおける目封止部の深さを3mmとし、最外周部パーシャルセルにおける目封止部の深さを5mmとしたものを作製した。なお、目封止部の材質は、ハニカム構造体本体と同じコージェライトである。この目封止ハニカム構造体について、後述する方法により、アイソスタティック破壊強度の測定、強制再生試験及び急加熱急冷却試験を実施した。
ATを主成分(AT含有率:90質量%)とする材料により目封止部が形成されている以外は、前記実施例1と同じ構造を有する目封止ハニカム構造体を作製した。この目封止ハニカム構造体について、後述する方法により、強制再生試験及び急加熱急冷却試験を実施した。

目封止ハニカム構造体を、ゴムの筒状容器に入れ、アルミ製板で蓋をして、水中で等方加圧圧縮を行い、目封止ハニカム構造体が破壊したときの加圧圧力値(アイソスタティック破壊強度)を測定し、その測定結果を、後述する比較例1の測定値を1とする相対強度比として、図9のグラフに示した。
目封止ハニカム構造体を、スートジェネレータ装置に配設し、約200℃のバーナー排気ガスを目封止ハニカム構造体に導入して、スートを目封止ハニカム構造体の内部に堆積(捕集)させた。こうして目封止ハニカム構造体の単位容積当たり5〜15g/Lまでの範囲で順次スート堆積量を増加させた後、650〜700℃の排気ガスを目封止ハニカム構造体に導入して、堆積させたスートを燃焼させる強制再生処理を行った。使用したスートジェネレータ装置は、その内部で軽油を燃焼させることによりスートを大量に発生させることができる燃焼室と、この燃焼室で発生した燃焼ガスとスートが通過する通過流路と、この通過流路に連通し、その内部に目封止ハニカム構造体を配設して、ハニカム構造体に短時間に大量のスートを堆積させることができる試験室とを備えたものである。燃焼室には、燃料が供給されるとともに、空気又は必要に応じて酸素を供給することができように流量計が配設され、また、通過流路には、空気又は必要に応じて酸素と窒素を供給することができるように流量計が配設されている。また、試験室には、レコーダーに接続された温度測定用の熱電対と、試験室の内部圧力測定用の圧力計が配設されている。また、試験室は、通過流路から流入し目封止ハニカム構造体を通過した気体が排出される排気ダクトに接続されている。目封止ハニカム構造体に排ガスを導入してスートを堆積(捕集)させる際の試験室の温度は約200℃で、通気流量は9Nm3/minとした。この際のスート発生量は、1時間当たり約90gであった。また、目封止ハニカム構造体に堆積させたスートを燃焼させる際の650〜700℃の排気ガスの流量は1.5Nm3/minとした。
目封止ハニカム構造体を、LPGを燃料としたバーナー装置に配設し、100〜700℃間の急加熱急冷却を繰り返し実施した。この試験で、急加熱急冷却のサイクル数を増加していくと、あるサイクル数のところで、目封止ハニカム構造体の排ガス入り口側の目封止部付近において隔壁の一部にクラックが発生する。そして、このクラックが発生するときのサイクル数が多いほど、目封止ハニカム構造体の耐熱衝撃性が高く、好ましいということになる。
Claims (8)
- 二つの端面の間を連通する複数のセルを区画形成する多孔質の隔壁と、当該隔壁と一体的に形成された外周壁とを有するハニカム構造体であって、
前記セルが、前記ハニカム構造体の最外周部に位置し、その一部が前記外周壁と接触している不完全なセル断面を有する最外周部パーシャルセルと、当該最外周部パーシャルセル以外の完全なセル断面を有する完全セルとからなり、前記完全セルと前記最外周部パーシャルセルとは、前記ハニカム構造体の端面全体が市松模様を呈するような目封止パターンで、その一端部に目封止部が形成されており、前記最外周部パーシャルセルにおける目封止部の深さが、前記完全セルにおける目封止部の深さよりも浅くなっている目封止ハニカム構造体であり、
前記完全セルの目封止部の深さは一定である目封止ハニカム構造体。 - 二つの端面の間を連通する複数のセルを区画形成する多孔質の隔壁と、当該隔壁と一体的に形成された外周壁とを有するハニカム構造体であって、
前記セルが、前記ハニカム構造体の最外周部に位置し、その一部が前記外周壁と接触している不完全なセル断面を有する最外周部パーシャルセルと、当該最外周部パーシャルセル以外の完全なセル断面を有する完全セルとからなり、前記完全セルは、ハニカム構造体の端面が市松模様を呈するような目封止パターンで、その一端部に目封止部が形成され、前記最外周部パーシャルセルの内、下式(1)により求められるセル面積率がS1未満のものについては、その全長に渡って閉塞されるよう前記外周壁と一体的に形成され、前記セル面積率がS2(ただし、S1<S2)を超えるものについては、前記目封止パターンにしたがってその一端部に前記完全セルにおける目封止部の深さよりも浅くなるよう目封止部が形成され、前記セル面積率がS1以上かつS2以下のものについては、その全長に渡って閉塞されるよう前記外周壁と一体的に形成されたものと、前記目封止パターンにしたがってその一端部に前記完全セルにおける目封止部の深さよりも浅くなるよう目封止部が形成されたものとが混在した状態となっている目封止ハニカム構造体。
セル面積率(%)=最外周部パーシャルセルの面積/完全セルの面積×100 (1) - 前記S1が30(%)以下の範囲内の値(ただし、0(%)は除く)であり、前記S2が2〜30(%)の範囲内の値である請求項2に記載の目封止ハニカム構造体。
- 前記S1が5(%)であり、前記S2が30(%)である請求項2に記載の目封止ハニカム構造体。
- 前記目封止部の剛性が前記隔壁の剛性よりも低く、かつ、前記目封止部の熱容量が前記隔壁の熱容量よりも大きい請求項1〜4の何れか一項に記載の目封止ハニカム構造体。
- 前記目封止部の材質がチタン酸アルミニウム又はその複合材であり、かつ、前記隔壁の材質がコージェライト又はその複合材である請求項1〜5の何れか一項に記載の目封止ハニカム構造体。
- 前記目封止部の熱伝導率が前記隔壁の熱伝導率よりも低い請求項1〜6の何れか一項に記載の目封止ハニカム構造体。
- 前記目封止部の熱膨張係数が前記隔壁の熱膨張係数よりも低い請求項1〜7の何れか一項に記載の目封止ハニカム構造体。
