Description
−(O・CH2・CO)− ……(1)
で表わされる繰り返し単位を60重量%以上含有するポリグリコール酸樹脂の単層の少なくとも片面にガラス転移点が70℃以下である芳香族ポリエステル樹脂を積層した厚み2〜10mmの中空積層プリフォームを加熱成形し、冷却し、赤外線ヒーターで30〜110秒間加熱して90℃以下の温度まで再加熱後、金型にセットし、縦1.5〜4.0倍、横3.0〜9.0倍にブロー共延伸して、下式(2):
T×w/v≦0.8×10 −3 ……(2)
ここで、Tは酸素ガス透過度(ml/容器/日/気圧)、vは容器の容量(ml)、wは容器の全重量に対するポリグリコール酸樹脂の割合で1〜10重量%の範囲内である、
を満足する多層中空容器を製造することを特徴とするものである。
上記において本発明による多層中空容器を規定する上記式(2)の左辺T×w/vは、容器容量が小さくなるにつれてバリア樹脂であるPGA樹脂に要求される大きなバリア性の指標であり、これが小なる程、PGA樹脂が大なるバリア性を示す分子配列状態にあることを示す。
本発明により製造される多層中空容器の主たる構成層の一はポリグリコール酸樹脂(以下、しばしば「PGA樹脂」と称する)よりなる。ここで、PGA樹脂としては、下記式(1)

で表わされるグリコール酸単位を繰り返し単位として60重量%以上の割合で有する単独または共重合体が用いられる。上記グリコール酸単位は、グリコール酸、グリコール酸アルキルエステルまたはグリコール酸塩の重縮合によっても得られるが、より好ましくは、グリコール酸の2分子間環状エステルであるグリコリド(GL)の開環重合により与えられる。
PGA樹脂には、必要に応じてその100重量部に対して、0.003〜3重量部、好ましくは0.005〜1重量部の熱安定剤を加えることができる。
本発明の多層中空容器においては、PGA樹脂層の少なくとも片面、好ましくは両面、には、芳香族ポリエステル樹脂が積層される。芳香族ポリエステル樹脂は、ポリエステルを構成するジオールとジカルボン酸の少なくとも一方、好ましくはジカルボン酸、が芳香族であるポリエステルであり、PGA樹脂層のTc1に対して高過ぎるTg(ガラス転移温度)を有すると、延伸のための再加熱においてPGA樹脂層の結晶化が進むのでTgが、70℃以下、好ましくは50〜60℃のものが用いられる。好ましくは、エチレングリコールとテレフタル酸のエステルであるエチレンテレフタレートの重合体(単独重合体のTg=約75℃)に対して、CHDM(シクロヘキサンジメタノール)、ダイマー酸等により、エチレングリコールまたはテレフタル酸の一方の一部を置換した共重合ポリエステルが用いられ、ポリブチレンテレフタレートも好適に用いられる。芳香族ポリエステル樹脂は、ウベローデ型粘度計を用いて測定したIV(固有粘度)値が0.7〜0.8のものが好ましく用いられる。
本発明の多層中空容器は、PGA樹脂と芳香族ポリエステル樹脂との試験管状の積層体、すなわち積層プリフォームないし有底パリソンを一旦加熱成形、ならびに冷却により形成し、再加熱後ロッドによる縦方向の延伸とともに内部に圧縮空気を吹き込み金型に押し付けてボトル形状に付形(ブロー成形)する方法が好ましく用いられる。
積層プリフォーム中のポリグリコール酸樹脂層の構成割合は重量基準(厚さ基準とほぼ等しい)で1〜10%の割合が好ましい。10重量%を超えると、積層プリフォームを延伸するために加熱するに際して結晶化が進み過ぎ、延伸のために多大な応力を必要とするとともに却ってボイドの発生によりガスバリア性が低下することがある。1重量%未満では、得られる多層中空容器のガスバリア性が乏しくなり、ガスバリアの良好な多層中空容器を得るという本発明の目的が達成し難くなる。
積層プリフォームの延伸ブロー成形に先立ち、積層プリフォームをPGA樹脂のTc1に対して過大とならない温度、好ましくは90℃以下、より好ましくは50〜60℃に再加熱する。赤外線ヒーターで、30〜110秒間、より好ましくは40〜100秒間、再加熱する方法が好ましく用いられる。再加熱時間が短すぎると、プリフォームの温度が不均一になり、ブロー成形時に厚み斑が生じやすくなり、分子配向も不均一になる。逆に、再加熱時間が長すぎるとPGAが結晶化して延伸性が損なわれる。
再加熱された積層プリフォームを、金型にセットし、縦1.5〜4.0倍、横3.0〜9.0倍、好ましくは縦2.0〜3.5倍、横3.5〜5.0倍にブロー延伸する。延伸倍率が低すぎると分子の配向が不足し、延伸倍率が高すぎると分子鎖の切断が起こり易くなる。面積倍率(縦の延伸倍率×横の延伸倍率)としては9〜12が好ましい。
延伸ブロー成形の最終工程で形成された中空容器(ボトル)を70〜160℃、好ましくは110〜150℃、の温度で1〜10秒間、好ましくは3〜7秒間、保持して熱固定することにより成形された中空容器の寸法安定性を改善することが好ましい。これは好ましくは上記温度に加熱された金型中で成形された中空容器を保持することにより行われる。このような加熱金型中での保持による熱固定操作は、通常のPETボトルの延伸ブロー成形においては行われないが、ガラス転移温度が比較的低い芳香族ポリエステルを好適な共積層樹脂として用いる本発明の中空容器において、加熱販売機などにおける50〜60℃の高温環境下での寸法安定性を良好に保つためには、熱固定が有効に作用する。熱固定なしでは55℃で収縮変形が起こりがちであるが、熱固定することによってこのような収縮変形が抑えられる。
上記各工程を通じて得られた本発明の多層中空容器は、上記式(2)の左辺のパラメータ、すなわちT×w/v(ここで、Tは酸素ガス透過度(ml/容器/日/気圧)、vは容器の容量(ml)、wは容器の全重量に対するポリグリコール酸樹脂の重量%)が0.8×10−3以下、好ましくは0.5×10−3以下、で代表される優れたガスバリア性を示し、炭酸飲料水、清涼飲料水、食用油、果汁、酒類、更には飲料水、洗剤、化粧品の容器として、従来よりPETボトルが用いられる用途により優れたガスバリア性を有する中空容器として用いられる。
小型圧縮成形機を用いて、280℃で厚さ約200μmのシートを作製し、このシートから重量約5mgを切り抜いてサンプルとした。このサンプルを示差走査熱量計(島津製作所製「DSC−60A」)を用いて、昇温速度を20℃/minとして、オンセット温度とエンドセット温度から求めた中間点をガラス転移温度とした。
プリフォームまたはボトルの芯層からPGAを取り出し、密度勾配管法により、23℃で密度を測定した。プリフォームの再加熱後の密度は、ブロー成形機の再加熱ゾーンをプリフォームが通過した直後に液体窒素で急冷してサンプルとした。
酸素ガス透過度測定装置(モダンコントロール社製「OX−TRAN2/20」)を用い、23℃、内部湿度80%RH、外部湿度50%RHの条件で酸素ガス透過度を測定した。
ブロー成形機の再加熱ゾーンをプリフォームが通過した直後にプリフォームの温度を赤外センサーで測定した。
形成したボトルに水を充填し、水の重量からボトル容量を求めた。
ボトル胴部の表面層(外層)を高さ方向に切り出してサンプルとした。このサンプルを熱機械的分析装置(セイコーインスツルメンツ(株)社製「EXSTER6000」)を用いて、昇温速度20℃/分での昇温下における収縮開始温度(℃)を測定した。
ポリグリコール酸(PGA)として、温度270℃、せん断速度120sec−1で測定した溶融粘度が450Pa・sのホモポリマーを用いた。このポリグリコール酸100重量部に対して、0.1重量部のホスファイト系酸化防止剤(旭電化工業株式会社製「PET−8」)を添加して、ペレット化した。このポリグリコール酸を芯層(7重量%)とし、内外層にIV値が0.74、ガラス転移温度が44℃の共重合ポリエステル(カネボウ合繊(株)、WPTS)を用いて、芯層と内外層の射出温度270℃として重量28gのプリフォームを得た。このプリフォームをSidel社製のブロー成形機(「SBO−1」)を用いて成形サイクル400BPH、再加熱温度を60℃として、容量500mlの40℃に加熱されたボトル金型を用いてブロー成形し、成形後5秒間保持して熱固定を行った。
実施例1と同じプリフォームを用いて、金型温度を70℃とする以外は、実施例1と同様にしてブロー成形を行った。
実施例1と同じプリフォームを用いて、金型温度を110℃とする以外は、実施例1と同様にしてブロー成形を行った。
実施例1と同じプリフォームを用いて、金型温度を150℃とする以外は、実施例1と同様にしてブロー成形を行った。
実施例1で用いた酸化防止剤入りPGAペレットを用い、このポリグリコール酸を芯層(8重量%)とし、内外層にIV値が0.74、ガラス転移温度が74℃のポリエチレンテレフタレートを用いて、芯層の射出温度270℃、内外層の射出温度280℃として重量28gのプリフォームを得た。このプリフォームをSidel社製のブロー成形機(「SBO−1」)を用いて成形サイクル400BPH、再加熱温度を93℃として、実施例1と同様に金型温度40℃、保持時間5秒でブロー成形を行った。
IV値が0.74、ガラス転移温度が44℃の共重合ポリエステル(実施例1〜4で用いたポリエステルと同じ)を用いて、射出温度270℃で重量28gの単層プリフォームを得た。このプリフォームを用いる以外は実施例1と同様にして、Sidel社製のブロー成形機(「SBO−1」)を用いて成形サイクル400BPH、再加熱温度を60℃として、容量500mlのボトル金型を用いて成形した。
IV値が0.74、ガラス転移温度が74℃のポリエチレンテレフタレート(比較例1で用いたポリエステルと同じ)を用いて、射出温度290℃で重量28gの単層プリフォームを得た。このプリフォームを再加熱温度を93℃とする以外は実施例1と同様にして、容量500mlのボトルを成形した。
