Description

【0001】

TECHNICAL FIELD OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to a terminal fitting, and more particularly to a terminal fitting integrally provided with a lance which can be locked to a connector housing.
[0002]
[Prior art]
As one of means for locking the terminal fitting to the connector housing, a lance is cut and raised in the terminal fitting so as to engage with a locking portion formed on the wall surface of the cavity of the connector housing. . Such a terminal fitting is disclosed in, for example, Japanese Patent Application Laid-Open No. 5-242923.
[0003]
[Problems to be solved by the invention]
However, since the leading edge of such a lance has a sharp fractured surface, if the terminal fitting is pulled strongly in the removal direction, the leading end of the lance may cut into the wall surface of the cavity. Particularly, in the case of a connector housing in which a partition wall between cavities is formed thin from the demand for miniaturization, there is a possibility that the lance may penetrate the wall surface and short-circuit with the terminal fitting of the adjacent cavity.
The present invention has been made in view of the above circumstances, and an object of the present invention is to provide a terminal fitting capable of preventing a tip of a lance from biting into a wall surface of a connector housing.
[0004]
[Means for Solving the Problems]
According to a first aspect of the present invention, there is provided a terminal fitting formed by cutting and raising a lance for elastically engaging a connector housing to prevent the terminal fitting itself from coming off. The lance has a feature in that a folded edge is formed at an end of the lance by folding an edge portion and tightly bending the edge portion.
[0005]
According to a second aspect of the present invention, in the first aspect, the lance is bent without an end of the lance biting into a wall surface of the connector housing against an external force acting in a direction in which the terminal fitting comes off. A feature is that an easily deformable portion set to be deformed is provided.
[0006]
Function and Effect of the Invention
According to the first aspect of the present invention, since the folded edge is formed at the tip of the lance, the edge portion does not have a sharp broken surface as in the related art, so that when the terminal fitting is pulled in the pulling-out direction, the lance is pulled out. Biting into the wall of the connector housing can be prevented.
[0007]
According to the invention of claim 2, when the terminal fitting is pulled, the easily deformable portion bends and deforms before the tip of the lance bites into the wall surface of the connector housing, whereby the lance is more reliably prevented from biting. Can be.
[0008]
BEST MODE FOR CARRYING OUT THE INVENTION
Next, an embodiment in which the present invention is applied to a female terminal fitting will be described with reference to FIGS. In the following description, the right side of FIG. 1 is the front side, and the position shown in FIG.
A plurality of female terminal fittings 20 of the present embodiment are mounted on the connector housing 10 made of synthetic resin. As shown in FIG. 1, a plurality of cavities 11 that can individually accommodate female terminal fittings 20 are formed in the connector housing 10 vertically and horizontally. A small tab opening 12 is formed at the front end of each cavity 11 so that a tab (not shown) of a male terminal fitting provided in the mating connector housing can be inserted into the cavity 11. I have. A terminal insertion opening 13 is opened at the rear end of the cavity 11 so that the female terminal fitting 20 can be inserted into the cavity 11 therefrom. A lance entry portion 15 is formed at the front end of the bottom wall 14 of each cavity 11, and a lance 29 of the female terminal fitting 20, which will be described later, can enter there. A locking portion 16 engageable with the lance 29 is formed on a rear wall surface of the lance entry portion 15, and the locking portion 16 has an inclined surface such that the cavity 11 side slightly projects toward the front end side. ing.
[0009]
On the other hand, the female terminal fitting 20 is assembled by cutting a conductive metal plate by pressing and then bending the conductive metal plate (see FIGS. 2 to 4). The female terminal fitting 20 has an elongated shape in the front and rear direction, and a wire barrel 21 for caulking the core wire of the electric wire W and an insulation barrel 22 for caulking the coating of the electric wire W are provided in front and rear at the rear portion. ing. In addition, a connecting portion 23 is provided at a front portion of the female terminal fitting 20 so as to connect a tab portion of the male terminal fitting.
[0010]
The connecting portion 23 has a rectangular tube shape as a whole, and has a tab insertion opening 24 for inserting a tab portion at its front end. An elastic contact piece 25 that can be connected to the tab portion is provided inside the connection portion 23. The elastic contact piece 25 is formed by folding a portion extending from a base 25A provided at a front portion of a bottom surface of the connection portion 23 to a rear portion of the connection portion 23 into a U-shape toward a ceiling surface, and has a tip end thereof. Is capable of elastic displacement in the vertical direction. Further, a projection 25C is provided on the base 25A, and the male and female terminal fittings are electrically connected by interposing a tab between the projection 25C and the displacement portion 25B. Further, on the upper surface of the connecting portion 23, a support piece 27 that can be elastically displaced up and down diagonally downward and forward is formed. The tip of the support piece 27 is always in contact with the upper surface of the displacement portion 25B of the elastic contact piece 25, whereby the elastic contact piece 25 is elastically supported from the outside. In addition, a stabilizer 28 is protruded downward from one side edge of the bottom surface of the connection portion 23 by cutting and raising, whereby the insertion of the female terminal fitting 20 into the cavity 11 is guided. I have.
[0011]
A lance 29 is formed on the bottom surface of the connection portion 23 by cutting and raising a substantially central portion obliquely downward and rearward. The lance 29 can be elastically deformed up and down, and can be elastically engaged with the locking portion 16 of the cavity 11. Further, at the tip of the lance 29, a convex rounded folded edge 31 is formed by folding the edge portion upward. Further, at a position slightly closer to the base end than the center in the length direction of the lance 29, a pair of cutout portions 32 are provided, which are partially cut out from both sides in the width direction. The portion sandwiched between the notches 32 is an easily deformable portion 33, which is a portion of the lance 29 having the smallest width dimension. As will be described later, the easily deformable portion 33 is configured such that the distal end of the lance 29 is closed by an external force acting in the direction in which the female terminal fitting 20 is pulled out while the lance 29 is locked to the locking portion 16 of the cavity 11. 11 is set to have a strength such that it bends and deforms with a force smaller than a force that digs into the bottom wall 14 of the eleventh embodiment.
[0012]
This embodiment has the above configuration, and its operation will be described next with reference to FIGS.
First, the female terminal fitting 20 to which the electric wire W is connected is inserted into the cavity 11 from the terminal insertion opening 13. When the lance 29 abuts against the bottom wall 14 of the cavity 11, it is elastically displaced upward as shown in FIG. At this time, if the tip of the lance 29 has a sharp fractured surface as in the conventional case, the lance 29 is caught between the bottom wall 14 of the cavity 11 and the insertion resistance increases, but in the present embodiment, the roundness is reduced. Since the folded edge 31 is in sliding contact with the bottom wall 14, the insertion resistance is reduced, and the insertion operation can be performed smoothly. In addition, when the female terminal fitting 20 being inserted is pulled out for some reason, the female terminal fitting 20 can be pulled out smoothly similarly.
[0013]
When the female terminal fitting 20 is pushed deep into the cavity 11, the lance 29 that has been bent upward is returned and deformed, enters the lance entry portion 15, locks with the locking portion 16, and the female terminal fitting 20 is removed. The state is stopped (see FIG. 6). After attaching the female terminal fittings 20 to all the cavities 11 as described above, the mating connector housing (not shown) is fitted into the connector housing 10.
[0014]
Now, during the assembling work or use of the connector housing 10, the electric wire W connected to the female terminal fitting 20 may be erroneously pulled strongly. Then, as shown in FIG. 7, the female terminal fitting 20 moves rearward (withdrawal direction), and the tip of the lance 29 abuts on the locking portion 16 and is strongly pressed. However, since the lance 29 has a rounded folded edge 31 at the tip of the lance 29 instead of a sharp fractured surface as in the conventional case, the lance 29 is prevented from cutting into or penetrating the bottom wall 14. Is done.
[0015]
When the female terminal fitting 20 is further strongly pulled, if the strength of the bottom wall 14 of the cavity 11 is lower than the strength of the lance 29, the tip of the lance 29 may bite into the bottom wall 14. However, in the present embodiment, the lance 29 is provided with the easily deformable portion 33, and the easily deformable portion 33 is configured so that the lance 29 is positioned at the bottom of the cavity 11 against external force acting in the direction in which the female terminal fitting 20 comes off. Since the female terminal fitting 20 is pulled, the easily deformable portion 33 is bent and the bottom wall 14 is bent as shown in FIG. Damage is prevented.
[0016]
The female terminal fitting 20 whose deformable portion 33 has been deformed cannot be used, and is pulled out of the cavity 11 for replacement. When the female terminal fitting 20 is pulled, the entire lance 29 is deformed so as to ride on the upper surface of the locking portion 16 and extend forward, and can be pulled out smoothly. Since the connector housing 11 is not damaged, it can be used normally by mounting a new female terminal fitting 20.
[0017]
As described above, according to the present embodiment, since the folded edge 31 is formed at the distal end of the lance 29, the edge portion does not have a sharp broken surface as in the related art, so that the female terminal fitting 20 is moved in the removal direction. The lance 29 can be prevented from biting into the wall surface of the connector housing 10 when pulled.
[0018]
The lance 29 is provided with an easily deformable portion 33. When an external force in the pull-out direction acts on the female terminal fitting 20, the easily deformable portion 33 is moved before the tip of the lance 29 bites into the wall surface of the connector housing 11. By bending and deforming, it is possible to more reliably prevent the lance 29 from biting.
[0019]
The technical scope of the present invention is not limited by the above-described embodiments. For example, the followings are also included in the technical scope of the present invention.
(1) In the above-described embodiment, the easily deformable portion 33 is provided by forming the pair of cutout portions 32 in the lance 29. However, according to the present invention, the easily deformable portion may not be provided. The shape may be other than the above, for example, the thickness may be made thinner than other portions of the lance.
