As a conventional electric wire with a terminal, for example, Patent Document 1 describes a crimp terminal that has a core wire crimping section (hollow section) to which a core wire (crimped wire) is crimped, and is crimped by a crimping tool with the core wire inserted into the core wire crimping section. This crimp terminal is formed so that a pair of crimping sections sandwich the core wire in the vertical direction.

Japanese Utility Model Application Publication No. 05-001165

Incidentally, the crimp terminal described in the above-mentioned Patent Document 1 electrically connects the core wire crimping portion and the core wire by sandwiching the core wire in the vertical direction between a pair of crimping portions, but it is desirable to electrically connect the core wire crimping portion and the core wire more effectively.

Therefore, the present invention has been made in consideration of the above, and aims to provide an electric wire with a terminal that can properly connect the core wire crimping portion and the core wire.

In order to solve the above-mentioned problems and achieve the object, the electric wire with terminal according to the present invention comprises an electrical connection part that can be connected to a connection counterpart member, and a core wire crimping part that is formed in a cylindrical shape around an axis and is crimped to a conductive core wire exposed from the end of the insulating coating of the electric wire, and the core wire crimping part includes a pair of first recesses that are arranged side by side with a gap in the axial direction along the axis, and a pair of second recesses that are arranged side by side with a gap in the axial direction along the axis, and the first recesses and the second recesses are respectively positioned in an arrangement direction that intersects the axial direction along the axis and offset in the axial direction, and the pair of first recesses and the pair of second recesses are characterized in that, when viewed from a crimping direction that intersects the axial direction and the arrangement direction, a virtual line connecting one of the first recesses and the other of the first recesses is located between the pair of second recesses, and a virtual line connecting one of the second recesses and the other of the second recesses is located between the pair of first recesses.

The electric wire with terminal according to the present invention has the first recess and the second recess disposed in appropriate positions in a dispersed manner, so that when the core wire crimping portion is crimped to the core wire, the compression of the core wire can be made uniform, and as a result, the core wire crimping portion and the core wire can be properly connected.

[Embodiment]
An electric wire with terminal 1 according to an embodiment will be described with reference to the drawings. The electric wire with terminal 1 is electrically connected to a mating terminal (not shown), and includes an electric wire 10 and a crimp terminal 20 as shown in FIG. 1. In the following description, the longitudinal direction of the crimp terminal 20 is referred to as the axial direction X. The axial direction X can also be said to be a direction along the axial line P of the core wire crimping portion 22 described below. The crimping direction Z is a direction in which the core wire crimping portion 22 is crimped. The arrangement direction Y is a direction intersecting the axial direction X and the crimping direction Z. The axial direction X, the arrangement direction Y, and the crimping direction Z intersect with each other, and are typically perpendicular to each other. The electric wire with terminal 1 will be described in detail below.

The electric wire 10 includes a core wire 11 and an insulating coating 12. The core wire 11 is formed by bundling together a plurality of conductive metal strands formed of a metal material such as copper. The core wire 11 includes an exposed core portion 111 exposed from an end of the insulating coating 12. The exposed core portion 111 is formed by exposing a part of the core wire 11 by cutting and removing an end of the insulating coating 12 in the axial direction X. In other words, the exposed core portion 111 is a portion exposed by stripping the end of the insulating coating 12. The exposed core portion 111 is crimped while being housed in a core crimping portion 22 of the crimp terminal 20 described later.

The insulating coating 12 has insulating properties and covers the core wire 11. The insulating coating 12 is formed, for example, from an insulating resin material (such as PP, PVC, or cross-linked PE; a suitable material is selected taking into consideration abrasion resistance, chemical resistance, heat resistance, etc.). The insulating coating 12 covers the core wire 11 except for the exposed core wire portion 111.

The crimp terminal 20 is a terminal formed from a metal material such as copper, copper alloy, aluminum, or aluminum alloy, and is, for example, a closed barrel crimp terminal. The crimp terminal 20 is a female terminal, and is electrically connected to a male terminal (not shown) as a mating member. The crimp terminal 20 is composed of an electrical connection portion 21, a core wire crimping portion 22, and a connecting portion 23.

The electrical connection part 21 is formed to extend along the axial direction X, and is the part into which the male terminal is inserted. The electrical connection part 21 has a cylindrical body 211 formed in a cylindrical shape around the axis P, and the male terminal is inserted into the internal space 221b of the cylindrical body 211. The electrical connection part 21 is electrically connected to the male terminal when the male terminal is inserted.

The core wire crimping portion 22 is a portion that crimps the exposed core portion 111 of the electric wire 10. The core wire crimping portion 22 is a hollow cylindrical portion that is formed integrally with the electrical connection portion 21, and is provided on the opposite side of the electrical connection portion 21 along the axial direction X via a connecting portion 23. The core wire crimping portion 22 is configured to include a cylindrical body 221.

The cylindrical body 221 is a part formed in a cylindrical shape around the axis P. The cylindrical body 221 is formed so that the inner diameter of the cylindrical body 221 is larger than the outer diameter of the outer peripheral surface of the exposed core wire portion 111 before the exposed core wire portion 111 is crimped to the cylindrical body 221. This allows the exposed core wire portion 111 to be inserted and accommodated inside the cylindrical body 221.

The connecting portion 23 is a portion that connects the electrical connection portion 21 and the core wire crimping portion 22. The connecting portion 23 is located between the electrical connection portion 21 and the core wire crimping portion 22 in the axial direction X, and is integrated with the electrical connection portion 21 and the core wire crimping portion 22.

The cylindrical body 221 of the core wire crimping portion 22 is crimped to the exposed core wire portion 111 by crimping dies, and then formed into a polyhedron. In this example, the cylindrical body 221 of the core wire crimping portion 22 is formed into a hexagonal shape in cross section along the arrangement direction Y and the crimping direction Z. In this hexagonal shape, the core wire crimping portion 22 includes a pair of main surface portions 221g, 221g facing each other in the crimping direction Z, a first side portion 221m adjacent to one side of one of the main surface portions 221g, a second side portion 221n adjacent to the other side of one of the main surface portions 221g, a first side portion 221r adjacent to one side of the other main surface portion 221g, and a second side portion 221s adjacent to the other side of the other main surface portion 221g.

Each surface of the core wire crimping portion 22 includes a recess formed by pressing with a crimping die. The core wire crimping portion 22 includes, for example, a pair of first recesses 221c, 221c and a pair of second recesses 221d, 221d, and these recesses are arranged in a staggered pattern to uniformly compress the exposed core wire portion 111.

For example, a pair of first recesses 221c, 221c are each formed on one of the main surface portions 221g and are arranged side by side with a gap in the axial direction X. As shown in Figs. 1 and 4, the pair of first recesses 221c, 221c are formed in a rectangular shape when viewed from the crimping direction Z and have a certain depth. As shown in Fig. 2, the pair of first recesses 221c, 221c are formed in a cross section along the crimping direction Z and the arrangement direction Y in a shape that widens from the bottom toward the main surface portion 221g, for example, in a trapezoidal shape.

The pair of second recesses 221d, 221d is arranged side by side with a gap around the axis P, with one second recess 221d formed in the first side portion 221m and the other second recess 221d formed in the second side portion 221n. As shown in FIG. 4, the pair of second recesses 221d, 221d is formed in a rectangular shape when viewed from the crimping direction Z, and is formed by hollowing out a part of the side portion of the core wire crimping portion 22. As shown in FIG. 3, the pair of second recesses 221d, 221d is formed in an L-shape in cross section along the crimping direction Z and the arrangement direction Y. The second recess 221d is formed smaller than the first recess 221c. In other words, the first recess 221c is formed larger than the second recess 221d.

The first recess 221c and the second recess 221d are positioned offset in the arrangement direction Y and the axial direction X, which intersect with the axial direction X. Specifically, when the pair of first recesses 221c, 221c and the pair of second recesses 221d, 221d are viewed from the crimping direction Z as shown in FIG. 4, the virtual line Q1 connecting one first recess 221c and the other first recess 221c is located between the pair of second recesses 221d, and the virtual line Q2 connecting one second recess 221d and the other second recess 221d is located between the pair of first recesses 221c. In other words, the virtual line (segment) Q1 connecting one first recess 221c and the other first recess 221c and the virtual line (segment) Q2 connecting one second recess 221d and the other second recess 221d intersect (orthogonally).

The core wire crimping portion 22 is formed symmetrically with respect to a plane of symmetry along the axial direction X and the arrangement direction Y. That is, the core wire crimping portion 22 also has the above-mentioned recess configuration on the opposite side. Specifically, the core wire crimping portion 22 includes a pair of first recesses 221e, 221e and a pair of second recesses 221f, 221f, and these recesses are provided to uniformly compress the exposed core wire portion 111.

For example, a pair of first recesses 221e, 221e are formed on the other main surface portion 221g and are arranged side by side with a gap in the axial direction X. When viewed from the crimping direction Z, the pair of first recesses 221e, 221e are formed in a rectangular shape and have a certain depth. As shown in FIG. 2, the cross section of the pair of first recesses 221e, 221e along the crimping direction Z and the arrangement direction Y is formed in a shape that widens from the bottom toward the main surface portion 221g, for example, in a trapezoidal shape.

The pair of second recesses 221f, 221f is arranged side by side with a gap around the axis P, with one second recess 221f formed in the first side surface portion 221r and the other second recess 221f formed in the second side surface portion 221s. When viewed from the crimping direction Z, the pair of second recesses 221f, 221f is formed in a rectangular shape, and is formed by hollowing out a part of the side surface portion of the core wire crimping portion 22. As shown in FIG. 3, the pair of second recesses 221f, 221f has an L-shaped cross section along the crimping direction Z and the arrangement direction Y. The second recess 221f is formed smaller than the first recess 221e. In other words, the first recess 221e is formed larger than the second recess 221f.

The first recess 221e and the second recess 221f are positioned offset in the arrangement direction Y and the axial direction X, which intersect with the axial direction X. Specifically, when the pair of first recesses 221e, 221e and the pair of second recesses 221f, 221f are viewed from the crimping direction Z, a virtual line (not shown) connecting one first recess 221e and the other first recess 221e is located between one second recess 221f and the other second recess 221f, and a virtual line (not shown) connecting one second recess 221f and the other second recess 221f is located between one first recess 221e and the other first recess 221e. In other words, the virtual line (segment) connecting one first recess 221e and the other first recess 221e and the virtual line (segment) connecting one second recess 221f and the other second recess 221f intersect (orthogonally).

The first recesses 221e overlap with the first recesses 221c in the crimping direction Z, and the second recesses 221f overlap with the second recesses 221d in the crimping direction Z. As a result, the terminal-attached electric wire 1 can compress the central portion R2 of the exposed core portion 111 at a low compression rate (compression rate = cross-sectional area after compression ÷ cross-sectional area before compression) along the crimping direction Z by the first recesses 221c and the first recesses 221e, as shown in FIG. 2, and can compress the peripheral portion R1 of the exposed core portion 111 at a higher compression rate than the central portion R2. Also, the terminal-attached electric wire 1 can compress the peripheral portion R3 of the exposed core portion 111 at a low compression rate along the crimping direction Z by the second recesses 221d and the second recesses 221f, as shown in FIG. 3, and can compress the central portion R4 of the exposed core portion 111 at a higher compression rate than the peripheral portion R3. In this way, the terminal-attached electric wire 1 has the exposed core portion 111 pressed from both sides in the crimping direction Z by the staggered recesses, so that the compression of the exposed core portion 111 can be made uniform.

As described above, the electric wire with terminal 1 according to the embodiment includes an electrical connection portion 21 that can be connected to a mating member, and a core crimping portion 22 that is formed in a cylindrical shape around the axis P and is crimped to the conductive core 11 exposed from the end of the insulating coating 12 of the electric wire 10. The core crimping portion 22 includes a pair of first recesses 221c, 221c that are spaced apart from each other in the axial direction X along the axis P, and a pair of second recesses 221d, 221d that are spaced apart from each other from each other around the axis P. The first recesses 221c and the second recesses 221d are positioned offset from each other in the arrangement direction Y that intersects with the axial direction X and in the axial direction X, respectively. That is, the pair of first recesses 221c, 221c and the pair of second recesses 221d, 221d are such that the imaginary line Q1 connecting one first recess 221c and the other first recess 221c is located between the pair of second recesses 221d, and the imaginary line Q2 connecting one second recess 221d and the other second recess 221d is located between the pair of first recesses 221c. With this configuration, the terminal-attached electric wire 1 has the first recesses 221c and the second recesses 221d disposed at appropriate positions in a dispersed state, so that when the core wire crimping portion 22 is crimped to the core wire 11, the compression of the core wire 11 can be made uniform, and as a result, the core wire crimping portion 22 and the core wire 11 can be properly connected, improving electrical performance.

In the electric wire with terminal 1, the core wire crimping portion 22 is formed in a polyhedron and includes a pair of main surface portions 221g, 221g facing the crimping direction Z intersecting the axial direction X and the arrangement direction Y, a first side surface portion 221m adjacent to one side of the main surface portion 221g with respect to the arrangement direction Y, and a second side surface portion 221n adjacent to the other side of the main surface portion 221g with respect to the arrangement direction Y. The first recess 221c is formed larger than the second recess 221d. A pair of first recesses 221c, 221c are formed in the main surface portion 221g. One of the pair of second recesses 221d, 221d, the second recess 221d, is formed in the first side surface portion 221m. The other of the pair of second recesses 221d, 221d, the second recess 221d, is formed in the second side surface portion 221n. This configuration allows the terminal-attached wire 1 to have the first recess 221c and the second recess 221d in appropriate positions in a distributed manner, allowing for uniform compression of the core wire 11.

In the electric wire with terminal 1, the core wire crimping portion 22 has two pairs of a pair of first recesses 221c, 221c and a pair of second recesses 221d, 221d. The first side portion 221m (221r) and the second side portion 221n (221s) are provided on both of the pair of main surface portions 221g, 221g. The pair of first recesses 221c, 221c (221e, 221e) formed on each of the main surface portions 221g, 221g overlap with each other along the crimping direction Z. The second recesses 221d (221f) formed on one side of the first side portion 221m, 221r overlap with each other along the crimping direction Z. The other second recesses 221d (221f) formed on the second side portion 221n, 221s overlap with each other along the crimping direction Z. This configuration allows the terminal-attached wire 1 to have the first recess 221e and the second recess 221f in appropriate positions in a distributed manner, allowing for uniform compression of the core wire 11.
