Abstract
Description
本実施形態の液晶表示部10は、例えば電子腕時計に使用される液晶表示パネルである。図1は、本実施形態に係る液晶表示部10の断面図である。液晶表示部10は、第1液晶表示パネル12と第2液晶表示パネル14とを備え、第1液晶表示パネル12と第2液晶表示パネル14とが透明部材(例えば空気層)13を介して積層される。
次に、第1液晶表示パネル12の構成について説明する。第1液晶表示パネル12は、画素ごとにアクティブ素子を配置したアクティブマトリクス方式が用いられる。
次に、第2液晶表示パネル14の構造について説明する。第2液晶表示パネル14は、共通電極が形成される下側基板40と、表示電極が形成されかつ下側基板40に対向配置される上側基板41と、下側基板40及び上側基板41間に挟持された液晶層42とを備える。なお、共通電極と表示電極との位置関係は逆でもよい。上側基板41の液晶層42と反対側の面が、液晶表示部10の表示面に対応する。下側基板40及び上側基板41はそれぞれ、透明基板(例えば、ガラス基板)から構成される。
次に、図1に示した液晶表示部10を備えた液晶表示装置50の構成について説明する。図2は、本実施形態に係る液晶表示装置50の斜視図である。図3は、図2のA−A´線に沿った液晶表示装置50の断面図である。

図4は、下側ケース51の斜視図である。下側ケース51の上から見た(平面的な)外形は、例えば四角形であり、バックライト11、第1液晶表示パネル12、及び第2液晶表示パネル14を収容可能なサイズ及び深さを有する。換言すると、下側ケース51は、底板と4つの側板とを有し、ふたの無い容器のような形状を有する。
図5は、上側ケース52の斜視図である。上側ケース52は、下側ケース51より若干大きい外形を有する。すなわち、上側ケース52の内側のサイズは、下側ケース51の外側のサイズと概略同じである。上側ケース52の上部には、液晶表示部10からの光を通過させるための開口部52Aが形成される。開口部52Aのサイズは、液晶表示部10の表示領域と同じかそれより若干大きく設定される。
図6は、バックライト11、及び液晶表示部10の斜視図である。図6(a)は、第2液晶表示パネル14の斜視図、図6(b)は、スペーサー18の斜視図、図6(c)は、第1液晶表示パネル12の斜視図、図6(d)は、バックライト11の斜視図である。図6では、下から上に向かって積層順にパーツを示している。

以上詳述したように本実施形態では、液晶表示装置50は、第1液晶表示パネル12と第2液晶表示パネル14とを備え、第1液晶表示パネル12と第2液晶表示パネル14とがスペーサー18を介して積層される。スペーサー18は、第1液晶表示パネル12と第2液晶表示パネル14とを接着するとともに、第1液晶表示パネル12と第2液晶表示パネル14との間に隙間を空けて空気層13を設ける。そして、スペーサー18は、その一部にスリット18Aを有している。
