マイクロフォンカバ一は,マスクに取り付けられた伝声器の一部分または全体、及びヘッドセットのマイクロフォンを一緒に覆うものであって,マイクロホンカバーの材質の指定はなく,ゴム、合成樹脂、或いは金属またはその他の何れでもよい。また、マイクロフォンのマスクへの取り付け方法についても限定はされず,接着や他の部品での押えこみ等何れの方法でもよい。また、マイクロフォンを伝声器に固定する手段についても特に限定はなく通常の固定具によって行えばよい。

図4はマイクロフォンカバー3及びマイクロフォン7接続の詳細断面図である。マイクロフォンカバー3の1面の1筒所に穴が設けられており,その穴にマイクロフォン7を挿入することで接続を行っている。マイクロフォンカバー3の材質に指定はないが,実施例ではシリコーンゴムを使用している。マイクロフォンカバー3を柔らかい素材にすることで,マイクロフォン7がマイクロフォンカバー3内部で干渉した際に生じる雑音が軽減される。また,マイクロフォン7を挿入する穴の大きさを,マイクロフォン7よりも小さくしておくことによって,マイクロフォンカバー3の隙間がなくなるため,外部との遮音性が高くなり,より通話性が向上する。伝声器8とマイクロフォン7の間の距離に指定はないが,離れ過ぎると声を拾いにくくなるため,0〜30mm程度が望ましい。
