Abstract
Description
(ここで、neは液晶の異常光線屈折率(extraordinary ray refractive index)、noは常光線屈折率(ordinary ray refractive index)、dはセルギャップを示す。△n、dはベクトルではなくスカラーである。)
下記の実施例1〜実施例3、及び比較例1〜比較例4では、LCDシミュレーションシステムであるTECH WIZ LCD 1D(サナイシステム社、韓国)を用いたシミュレーションを通して広視野角の効果を比べた。
本発明に係る各光学フィルム、液晶セル及びバックライトなどの実測データを、図1に示すような積層構造と共に、TECH WIZ LCD 1D(サナイシステム、韓国)に使用した。図1の構造を以下に具体的に説明する。
としたとき、下記の数式5〜9で定義される。ここで、S(λ)は光源スペクトラムであり、光源はC光源である。
上記実施例1と同様に構成されるが、第一位相差フィルム24は、正面位相差(R0)が100nm、屈折率比(NZ)が−0.1であるものを、第二位相差フィルム14は、正面位相差(R0)が150nm、屈折率比(NZ)が−0.7であるものを使用した。上記第一位相差フィルム24の正面位相差(R0)と第二位相差フィルム14の正面位相差(R0)との和は250nmであった。
上記実施例1と同様に構成されるが、第一位相差フィルム24は、正面位相差(R0)が50nm、屈折率比(NZ)が−0.1であるものを、第二位相差フィルム14は、正面位相差(R0)が250nm、屈折率比(NZ)が−0.7であるものを使用した。上記第一位相差フィルム24の正面位相差(R0)と第二位相差フィルム14の正面位相差(R0)のと和は300nmであった。
上記実施例1と同様に構成されるが、液晶表示装置は、正面位相差(R0)が60nm、屈折率比(NZ)が−1.3であるポジティブ二軸性Aプレート、正面位相差(R0)が70nm、屈折率比(NZ)が1.7であるポジティブ一軸性Aプレート、偏光子及び保護フィルムを積層して形成した上側偏光板と、正面位相差(R0)が0nmであり、厚み方向位相差(Rth)が0nmである等方性保護層、偏光子及び保護フィルムを積層して形成した下側偏光板と、を積層して製造された。この構成では、ポジティブ一軸性Aプレートとポジティブ二軸性Aプレートの各遅相軸(Slow Axis)は、偏光板内の偏光子の吸収軸と平行である。
上記実施例1と同様に構成されるが、上側偏光板と下側偏光板の2つ目の位相差フィルムとしてNormal TAC(入射光589.3nmに対してRthが50nmである三酢酸セルロース)を使用してIPS液晶表示装置を製造した。
上記実施例1と同様に構成されるが、上側偏光板と下側偏光板の2つ目の位相差フィルムとして等方性保護フィルム(正面位相差(R0)は0nmで、厚み方向位相差(Rth)は0nmである)を使用してIPS液晶表示装置を製造した。
上記実施例1と同様に構成されるが、第一位相差フィルム24は正面位相差(R0)が150nm、屈折率比(NZ)が−0.1であり、第二位相差フィルム14は正面位相差(R0)が250nm、屈折率比(NZ)が−0.7であった。上記第一位相差フィルム24の正面位相差(R0)と第二位相差フィルム14の正面位相差(R0)との和は400nmであった。
Claims (8)
- 上から、保護フィルム、偏光子、及び第一位相差フィルムの順で積層された上側偏光板と、
上から、第二位相差フィルム、偏光子、及び保護フィルムの順で積層された下側偏光板と、を含み、
前記第一位相差フィルムは、正面位相差値(R0)が50〜200nmであり、屈折率比(NZ)が−1〜−0.01であり、前記第一の位相差フィルムの遅相軸が、前記上側偏光板内の前記偏光子の吸収軸と平行であり、
前記第二位相差フィルムは、正面位相差値(R0)が50〜250nmであり、屈折率比(NZ)が−2〜−0.5であり、第二位相差フィルムの遅相軸が、下側偏光板内の偏光子の吸収軸と直交しており、
前記第一位相差フィルムの正面位相差値(R0)と前記第二位相差フィルムの正面位相差値(R0)との和が200〜350nmであることを特徴とする複合構成偏光板セット。 - 前記第一位相差フィルム及び前記第二位相差フィルムは、三酢酸セルロース(TAC)、シクロオレフィンポリマー(COP)、シクロオレフィンコポリマー(COC)、ポリエチレンテレフタレート(PET)、ポリプロピレン(PP)、ポリカーボネート(PC)、ポリスルホン(PSF)及びポリメチルメタクリレート(PMMA)からなる群から選ばれたものから、独立して製造されたものであることを特徴とする請求項1に記載の複合構成偏光板セット。
- 前記上側偏光板の前記位相差フィルム及び前記下側偏光板の前記位相差フィルムの各々は、ポリメチルメタクリレート(PMMA)層、ポリスチレン(PS)層及びポリメチルメタクリレート(PMMA)層をこの順で含んでいることを特徴とする請求項1記載の複合構成偏光板セット。
- 請求項1乃至3のいずれか1項に記載の複合構成偏光板セットを備えた面内切替式液晶表示装置。
- 液晶セルは、589nmの波長で、位相差が300〜330nmであることを特徴とする請求項4に記載の液晶表示装置。
- 液晶セルは、液晶の配向方向が下側偏光板の吸収軸と平行になるように構成された請求項4に記載の面内切替式液晶表示装置。
- ブラックモードにおける全視角からの最大透過率が0.2%以下であることを特徴とする請求項4に記載の面内切替式液晶表示装置。
- Φ=45゜、θ=60゜の視角で、550nmの短波長の光が各光学層を通過するときに、ポアンカレ球上でのそれぞれの偏光状態は、光が下側偏光板内の前記偏光子を通過した直後の偏光状態から、前記上側偏光板内の前記偏光子の吸収軸に光が最大限に吸収される偏光状態までの距離を半径とした円の内側にあることを特徴とする請求項4に記載の面内切替式液晶表示装置。
