具体的には、ラックの前面にサブウーファーを配置すると、ラック前面の使用スペースが犠牲になった。参考例としてシャープＡＮ−ＡＲ６１０などがある。
ラックの側面にサブウーファーを配置した場合でも、やはりラック前面のスペースが犠牲になった。参考例としてパナソニックＳＣ−ＨＴＸ９００などがある。これを避ける為にサブウーファーユニットを側面に向け、サブウーファーキャビネットを薄くすると、キャビネット容積が十分取にとれない為、低音再生能力が低下した。さらにサブウーファーユニットが側面にある為、壁でサブウーファーユニットを塞がないようにラックのサブウーファー側と壁との間に隙間を確保する必要があり、ラックの置き方に制約が生じた。参考例としてＣＡＶＨＲ−１１４０、ドウシシャＡＴＢ１２０などがある。
ラックの底面にサブウーファーを配置した場合でも、サブウーファーキャビネット容積を必要なだけ確保すると、ラック前面のスペースが犠牲になった。又、収納スペースは非常に横長となり、前面にガラス扉を設置する事は困難であった。参考例として、シャープＡＮ−ＡＲ４３０などがある。これを避けるために底板の下側にサブウーファーを配置した場合、ラック前面の使用スペースは犠牲にならないが、低音再生に必要なキャビネット容積を確保するのが困難である為、低音再生能力が低下したり、高コストのサブウーファーユニットを使用する必要があった。参考例としてソニーＲＨＴ−Ｇ９５０などがある。
