Abstract
【解決手段】エチレン性不飽和カルボン酸単量体、シアン化ビニル系単量体、エチレン性不飽和カルボン酸エステル系単量体、芳香族ビニル系単量体、脂肪族共役ジエン系単量体のそれぞれを特定比率で構成し、これを乳化重合して得られた共重合体ラテックスからなるバインダーとする。

Description
本発明の目的は、集電体や活物質との結着力に優れ、電極塗工層の表面電気抵抗率の低い電極塗工層を形成することができる優れた二次電池電極用バインダーを提供することにある。
好ましくは、1)エチレン性不飽和カルボン酸単量体1〜8重量%、2)シアン化ビニル系単量体8〜15重量%、3)エチレン性不飽和カルボン酸エステル系単量体15〜20重量%、4)芳香族ビニル系単量体40〜50重量%、5)脂肪族共役ジエン系単量体20〜25重量%から構成される。
単量体は、乳化剤、重合開始剤、還元剤、連鎖移動剤を初めとする公知の乳化重合に使用される各種化学物質の存在下に重合される。
乳化剤としては、例えば、高級アルコールの硫酸エステル塩、アルキルベンゼンスルホン酸塩、アルキルジフェニルエーテルジスルホン酸塩、脂肪族スルホン酸塩、脂肪族カルボン酸塩、非イオン性界面活性剤の硫酸エステル塩などのアニオン性界面活性剤、例えば、ポリエチレングリコールアルキルエステル型、アルキルフェニルエーテル型、アルキルエーテル型などのノニオン性界面活性剤などが挙げられ、1種または2種以上用いられる。好ましくは、アニオン性界面活性剤が挙げられ、より好ましくは、アルキルベンゼンスルホン酸塩、アルキルジフェニルエーテルジスルホン酸塩が挙げられる。
乳化剤は、単量体(合計)100重量部に対して、例えば、0.05〜5重量部、好ましくは、0.1〜3重量部の割合で用いられる。
連鎖移動剤は、例えば、単量体(合計)100重量部に対して、0〜5重量部、好ましくは、0.05〜3重量部の割合で用いられる。
また、重合方法としては、特に限定されず、バッチ重合、セミバッチ重合、シード重合などを用いることができる。また、各種成分の添加方法についても特に制限されるものではなく、一括添加方法、分割添加方法、連続添加方法、パワーフィード法などを用いることができる。
得られた共重合体ラテックスの固形分には特に制限はないが、輸送形態、その後の取り扱いを考慮し、例えば、40〜55重量%、好ましくは、47〜52重量%である。
さらに、得られた共重合体ラテックス中の共重合体粒子の数平均粒子径にも、特に制限はないが、電極塗工層の結着力の面より、数平均粒子径で、好ましくは50〜300nm、より好ましくは、70〜250nmである。
具体的には、二次電池電極用バインダーを、負極構成材または正極活物質に配合することにより、電池電極用組成物が調製される。すなわち、二次電池電極用バインダーを負極構成材に配合することにより、二次電池の負極に用いられる負極用組成物が調製される。また、二次電池電極用バインダーを正極活物質に配合することにより、二次電池の正極に用いられる正極用組成物が調製される。
負極構成材または正極活物質100重量部に対する共重合体ラテックスの固形分が、0.1重量部未満では、集電体などに対する良好な接着力が得られない傾向があり、7重量部を超えると、二次電池として組み立てたときに過電圧が著しく上昇し、電池特性を低下させる傾向がある。
電池電極用組成物は、集電体に塗布、乾燥されることにより、集電体上に電極塗工層を形成し、電極シートを得る。そのような電極シートは、リチウムイオン二次電池の正極板または負極板として用いられる。
電池電極用組成物を集電体に塗布する方法としては、リバースロール法、コンマバー法、グラビヤ法、エアーナイフ法などの公知の方法を用いることができ、乾燥には、放置乾燥、送風乾燥機、温風乾燥機、赤外線加熱機、遠赤外線加熱機などが用いられる。乾燥温度は、通常、50℃以上である。
(1)実施例1〜4および比較例1〜6
耐圧性の重合反応器に、純水100部、ドデシルベンゼンスルホン酸ナトリウム0.6部、過硫酸カリウム1部を仕込み、十分攪拌した。次いで、重合反応器に、表1に示すカルボン酸全量とカルボン酸以外の各単量体10%およびt−ドデシルメルカプタン0.3部と、シクロへキセン4部とを投入した。攪拌しながら内温を70℃まで昇温させ、重合開始による発熱を確認した後、重合開始から480分まで、内温を70℃に保ちながら、各単量体の残り(90%)、純水10部およびアルキルジフェニルエーテルジスルホン酸ナトリウム0.3部を連続添加した。
480分から780分までは、内温を75℃に保って重合を継続した。重合転化率が97%を超えたことを確認して、内温を35℃以下に冷却した。
水酸化カリウム水溶液を用いて、pHを約8に調整した後、水蒸気蒸留により未反応単量体などを除去し、各種共重合体ラテックスを得た。
温度80℃、湿度85%の雰囲気にてラテックスフィルムを作成する。その後ラテックスフィルムを約1g秤量し、これを400mlのトルエンに入れ48時間膨張溶解させる。その後、これを300メッシュの金網で濾過し、金網に捕捉されたトルエン不溶部を乾燥後秤量し、この重量のはじめのラテックスフィルムの重量に占める割合をゲル含有量として重量%で算出した。
共重合体ラテックスの数平均粒子径を動的光散乱法により測定した。尚、測定に際しては、FPAR−1000(大塚電子製)を使用した。
共重合体ラテックスをガラス板上に流延し、70℃、4時間乾燥してフィルムを作製した。このフィルムをアルミパンに詰め、示差走査熱量計(DSC6200:セイコーインスツルメンツ社製)にセットした。
あらかじめ、予想されるTgより約50℃低い温度まで装置を冷却した後、加熱速度10℃/minで昇温し、DSC曲線を描かせた。
ガラス転移温度(Tg)は各ベースラインの延長した直線から縦軸方向に等距離にある直線とガラス転移の階段状変化部分の曲線とが交わる点の温度とした。
(1)電極用組成物の作製
導電性炭素質材料として平均粒子径が15μmの天然黒鉛を使用し、天然黒鉛100重量部に対して、増粘剤としてカルボキシメチルセルロース水溶液(固形分)2重量部と、各実施例および各比較例で得られた共重合体ラテックス(固形分)3重量部とを、電極用組成物の固形分が40%となるように適量の水を加えて混練し、各実施例および各比較例の各種電極用組成物を調製した。
各実施例および各比較例の電極用組成物を、集電体となる厚さ20μmの銅箔の両面に塗布し、100℃で25分間乾燥後、室温でプレスして、塗工層の厚みが80μm(片面あたり)の電極シートを得た。
(1)電極塗工層の結着力の測定
各実施例および各比較例の電極シートの表面に、ナイフを用いて、塗工層から集電体に達する深さまでの切り込みを、2mm間隔で縦横それぞれ6本入れ、25個(5個×5個)のマス目を有する碁盤目を形成した。この碁盤目に粘着テープを貼付けた。
結着力−1:直ちに粘着テープ引き剥がし、黒鉛の脱落の程度を目視評価した。
結着力−2:30℃、2kg/cm2加重、24時間放置後、粘着テープ引き剥がし、黒鉛の脱落の程度を目視評価した。結果を表1に示す。
◎:剥離なし。
○:1〜3個のマス目が剥離。
△:4〜10個のマス目が剥離。
×:11個以上のマス目が剥離。
各実施例および各比較例の電極用組成物を、市販のポリエステルフィルムに塗工し、130℃で5分間乾燥した。さらにロールプレスにて圧延することにより、塗工層厚みが約60μm、塗工層密度が約1.3g/cm3の塗工層サンプルを得た。
三菱化学アナリテック株式会社製ロレスタ−GPにて、塗工層の表面抵抗率を測定した。結果を表1に示す。
Claims (2)
- エチレン性不飽和カルボン酸単量体0.5〜10重量%、シアン化ビニル系単量体5〜20重量%、エチレン性不飽和カルボン酸エステル系単量体13〜25重量%、芳香族ビニル系単量体35〜55重量%、脂肪族共役ジエン系単量体18〜28重量%から構成される単量体を乳化重合して得られた共重合体ラテックスからなる二次電池電極用バインダー。
- エチレン性不飽和カルボン酸単量体1〜8重量%、シアン化ビニル系単量体8〜15重量%、エチレン性不飽和カルボン酸エステル系単量体15〜20重量%、芳香族ビニル系単量体40〜50重量%、脂肪族共役ジエン系単量体20〜25重量%から構成される単量体を乳化重合して得られた共重合体ラテックスからなる二次電池電極用バインダー。
