Description
セラミック層の内側面に隣接しているのが第1の繊維層であり、第1の繊維層は、適切な接着手段によって接着されているのが好ましい。第1の繊維層はさらに、内側面と外側面を有していて、第1の繊維層の外側面がセラミック層の内側面に隣接している。第1の繊維層に隣接しているのが第2の繊維層である。第2の繊維層はさらに、内側面と外側面を有していて、第2の繊維層の外側面が第1の繊維層の内側面に隣接している。第1と第2の繊維層は、互いに接着されているのが好ましい。
樹脂材料にカーボンブラックやシリカ等の充填剤を配合してもよく、また樹脂材料をオイルで増量したり、ゴム技術者に公知の方法を使用して、イオウ、過酸化物、金属酸化物、もしくは放射線硬化システムによって硬化させたりすることもできる。異なった樹脂のブレンド物も使用することができる。
所望の形状にするのを容易にするために、例えば異なった層が互いの上を滑るよう、繊維層に1つ以上のプラスチックフィルムを組み込むことができる。これらのプラスチックフィルムは一般に、各繊維層の一方もしくは両方の面に、または繊維層を形成している2プライもしくは4プライの各圧密化プリプレグの一方もしくは両方の面に接着することができる。ポリオレフィンで作られたフィルム[例えば、線状低密度ポリエチレン(LLDPE)フィルムや超高分子量ポリエチレン(UHMWPE)フィルム]、ポリエステルフィルム、ナイロンフィルム、およびポリカーボネートフィルム等の、任意の適切なプラスチックフィルムを使用することができる。これらのフィルムは、任意の望ましい厚さであってよい。一般的な厚さは約0.1〜約1.2ミル(2.5〜30μm)の範囲であり、さらに好ましくは約0.2〜約1ミル(5〜25μm)の範囲であり、そして最も好ましくは約0.3〜約0.5ミル(7.5〜12.5μm)の範囲である。最も好ましいのはLLDPEのフィルムである。
セラミックタイルからセラミック表面仕上げパネルを作製した。セラミックタイルは、炭化ケイ素セラミック[SiC−N、セルコム・セラミックス社(Cercom Ceramics)から市販されており、3.20g/cm3のバルク密度、3〜5μmの平均粒径、および85ksi(586MPa)の曲げ強度(室温にて4−pt MOR)を有すると報告されている]であった。0.145インチ(3.68mm)の厚み、2.50psf(12.2ksm)の面密度、および5.25×5.25インチ(13.34×13.34cm)プレートの形態を有する4つのタイルを使用した。
異なった繊維裏地材料を使用して実施例1に記載の手順を繰り返した。裏地材料は、マトリックス樹脂(16重量%の熱可塑性ポリウレタン樹脂;メーカーによれば、ポリウレタン樹脂の水中コポリマー混合物であると説明されている)を含む、一方向に配向した4−プライアラミド不織構造物であるゴールド・シールド(GOLD SHIELD)(登録商標)RS(ハネウェル・インターナショナル社から市販)から作製した。4−プライ構造物は、0°/90°/0°/90°にて方形直交している個別のプライを含んだ。アラミド繊維は、1000のデニール値と26g/dのテナシティ値を有する。
実施例3
第1の高分子量ポリエチレン繊維層を使用し、そして第2のアラミド繊維層を裏地層として使用したこと以外は、実施例1に記載の手順を繰り返した。高分子量ポリエチレン層は、実施例1の4−プライ高分子量ポリエチレンプリプレグの合計20層から作製し、これを第1の繊維裏地層として使用した。アラミド層は、実施例2の4−プライアラミドプリプレグの合計22層から作製し、これを第2の繊維裏地層として使用した。
実施例4
高分子量ポリエチレン繊維層とアラミド繊維層の配置を逆にしたこと以外は、実施例3に記載の手順を繰り返した[アラミド層が第1の繊維層(セラミック層に隣接)を形成し、高分子量ポリエチレン層が第2の繊維層を形成した]。

- 外側表面と内側表面とを有する、外側に面しているセラミック層;第1のタイプの高テナシティ繊維のネットワークを含んでいて、外側表面と内側表面とを有する第1の繊維層、前記第1の繊維層の前記外側表面が、前記セラミック層の前記内側表面に隣接している;および、第2のタイプの高テナシティ繊維のネットワークを含んでいて、外側表面と内側表面とを有する第2の繊維層、前記第2の繊維層の前記外側表面が、前記第1の繊維層の前記内側表面に隣接している;を含み、前記第1のタイプの高テナシティ繊維が、前記第2のタイプの高テナシティ繊維の組成とは異なった組成を有し、且つ、前記第1の繊維層が前記第2の繊維層より高い剛性を有する、弾道抵抗性パネル。

- 前記第1の繊維層が、高分子量ポリエチレン繊維とアラミド繊維からなる群から選択される繊維を含み、前記第2の繊維層が、高分子量ポリエチレン繊維とアラミド繊維からなる群から選択される繊維を含む、請求項5に記載のパネル。
- 前記第1の繊維層がアラミド繊維を含み、前記第2の繊維層が高分子量ポリエチレン繊維を含む、請求項16に記載のパネル。
- 前記セラミック層が、金属窒化物、非金属窒化物、金属ホウ化物、非金属ホウ化物、金属炭化物、非金属炭化物、金属酸化物、非金属酸化物、およびこれらの混合物からなる群から選択されるセラミック材料を含む、請求項1に記載のパネル。
- 前記セラミック層が、炭化ケイ素、酸化ケイ素、窒化ケイ素、炭化ホウ素、窒化ホウ素、二ホウ化チタン、アルミナ、酸化マグネシウム、およびこれらの混合物からなる群から選択されるセラミック材料を含む、請求項1に記載のパネル。

- 外側表面と内側表面とを有する、外側に面したセラミック層;アラミド繊維と高分子量ポリエチレン繊維とからなる群から選択される第1のタイプの高テナシティ繊維のネットワークを含んでいて、外側表面と内側表面とを有する第1の繊維層、前記第1の繊維層の前記外側表面が、前記セラミック層の前記内側表面に隣接している;および、アラミド繊維と高分子量ポリエチレン繊維とからなる群から選択される第2のタイプの高テナシティ繊維のネットワークを含んでいて、外側表面と内側表面とを有する第2の繊維層、前記第2の繊維層の前記外側表面が、前記第1の繊維層の前記内側表面に隣接している;を含み、前記第1のタイプの高テナシティ繊維が、前記第2のタイプの高テナシティ繊維の組成とは異なった組成を有し、且つ、前記第1の繊維層が、前記第2の繊維層の曲げモジュラスより少なくとも約5%高い曲げモジュラスを有する、弾道抵抗性パネル。
- 前記パネルが、前記第1または第2のタイプの高テナシティ繊維と同じタイプの高テナシティ繊維を含む単一の繊維層だけを有する類似のセラミックパネル構造物の弾道抵抗性と比較して実質的に等価又はそれ以上の弾道抵抗性を有し、前記単一の繊維層が、前記第1の繊維層と前記第2の繊維層との合計面密度と実質的に同じ面密度を有する、請求項24に記載のパネル。
- 前記第1の繊維層が、前記第2の繊維層の曲げモジュラスより少なくとも約25%高い曲げモジュラスを有する、請求項24に記載のパネル。
- 前記セラミック層が炭化ケイ素を含む、請求項24に記載のパネル。
- 前記第1と第2の繊維層の少なくとも一方が、繊維と樹脂マトリックスとの一方向に配向した不織ネットワークの形態をとっている、請求項24に記載のパネル。
- 前記第1と第2の繊維層のそれぞれが、互いに対して配向している複数の繊維プライを含んだ複数のプリプレグを含む、請求項28に記載のパネル。
- 前記第1の繊維層がアラミド繊維を含み、前記第2の繊維層が高分子量ポリエチレン繊維を含む、請求項29に記載のパネル。
- 前記第1の繊維層の前記樹脂マトリックスが熱可塑性ポリウレタン樹脂を含み、前記第2の繊維層の前記樹脂マトリックスがスチレン−イソプレン−スチレンブロックコポリマーを含む、請求項30に記載のパネル。
- 外側表面と内側表面とを有する、外側に面したセラミック層、前記セラミック層は炭化ケイ素を含む;アラミド繊維と高分子量ポリエチレン繊維とからなる群から選択される第1のタイプの高テナシティ繊維のネットワークを含んでいて、外側表面と内側表面とを有する第1の繊維層、前記第1の繊維層の前記外側表面が、前記セラミック層の前記内側表面に隣接している;および、アラミド繊維と高分子量ポリエチレン繊維とからなる群から選択される第2のタイプの高テナシティ繊維のネットワークを含んでいて、外側表面と内側表面とを有する第2の繊維層、前記第2の繊維層の前記外側表面が、前記第1の繊維層の前記内側表面に隣接している;を含み、前記第1と第2の繊維層のそれぞれが、繊維と樹脂マトリックスとの一方向に配向した不織ネットワークの形態をとっており、前記第1のタイプの高テナシティ繊維が、前記第2のタイプの高テナシティ繊維の組成とは異なった組成を有し、且つ、前記第1の繊維層が、前記第2の繊維層の曲げモジュラスより少なくとも約15%高い曲げモジュラスを有しており、これによって前記パネルが、前記第1または第2のタイプの高テナシティ繊維と同じタイプの高テナシティ繊維を含む単一の繊維層だけを有する類似のセラミックパネル構造物の弾道抵抗性と比較して実質的に等価又はそれ以上の弾道抵抗性を有し、前記単一の繊維層が、前記第1の繊維層と前記第2の繊維層との合計面密度と実質的に同じ面密度を有する、弾道抵抗性パネル。
- 前記樹脂マトリックスは、前記繊維がアラミド繊維であるときには熱可塑性ポリウレタン樹脂であり、前記繊維が高分子量ポリエチレン繊維であるときはスチレン−イソプレン−スチレンブロックコポリマーである、請求項32に記載のパネル。
- 前記第1の繊維層の厚さと前記第2の繊維層の厚さとの比が約1.5:1〜約1:1.5である、請求項33に記載のパネル。
- 前記第1のタイプの高テナシティ繊維のデニールと前記第2のタイプの高テナシティ繊維のデニールが約50〜約3000である、請求項34に記載のパネル。
- 前記第1の繊維層が接着フィルムによって前記セラミック層に接着されている、請求項35に記載のパネル。
