Abstract
【解決手段】液晶素子16への入射光の遮光量(角度分布)を、入力映像信号Dinにおける輝度ヒストグラム分布H1に基づいて調整する。映像の明るさに応じてコントラスト比等が調整され、コントラスト比等が向上する。また、液晶素子16への入射光の遮光量に応じて映像信号D1の補正を行うと共に、その補正後の映像信号D3に基づいて映像表示を行う。表示光の角度分布が変化する場合であっても、表示領域内の輝度分布の調整がなされ、表示領域内の輝度むら等が低減する。また、2つの補正テーブルA,B内の各補正値を混合してなる混合補正値を用いて、映像信号D1の補正を行う。補正テーブルの保有数が最小限に抑えられ、製造コストが維持される。

Claims (9)
- 光源と、
前記光源から発せられた光を映像信号に基づいて変調する空間光変調素子と、
前記空間光変調素子の前段または後段に配置され、前記映像信号における輝度情報に基づいて入射光の角度分布を変化させる角度分布調整手段と、
前記角度分布調整手段による角度分布調整量に応じて前記映像信号の補正を行い、補正後の映像信号を前記空間光変調素子へ供給する補正手段と
を備え、
前記補正手段は、互いに異なる複数の前記角度分布調整量に対応する複数の補正テーブルを有すると共に、それら複数の補正テーブル内の各補正値を前記角度分布調整量に応じて定まる混合比により混合して混合補正値を生成し、その混合補正値を用いて前記映像信号の補正を行う
ことを特徴とする表示装置。 - 前記複数の補正テーブルがそれぞれ、前記映像信号の輝度レベルに対応した複数セットのテーブルにより構成されている
ことを特徴とする請求項1に記載の表示装置。 - 前記混合比が、前記映像信号の輝度レベルに応じて変化するように構成されている
ことを特徴とする請求項2に記載の表示装置。 - 前記補正手段は、前記映像信号に基づく表示領域を分割してなる複数の画素領域ごとに、前記混合補正値を用いて補正を行う
ことを特徴とする請求項1に記載の表示装置。 - 前記映像信号における輝度情報が、表示領域における輝度ヒストグラム分布である
ことを特徴とする請求項1に記載の表示装置。 - 前記角度分布調整手段が、入射光に対する遮光量を変化させる可変絞りである
ことを特徴とする請求項1に記載の表示装置。 - 前記角度分布調整手段が、光学ズーム機能を有するズームレンズである
ことを特徴とする請求項1に記載の表示装置。 - 前記空間光変調素子が液晶素子であり、液晶表示装置として構成されている
ことを特徴とする請求項1に記載の表示装置。 - 前記空間光変調素子により変調された光をスクリーンに投射する投射手段を備え、投射型表示装置として構成されている
ことを特徴とする請求項1に記載の表示装置。
