Abstract
【解決手段】光伝送ファイバは、保護用の外側ポリマー被覆の下に配置された、比較的低い屈折率の比較的薄い外側クラッド層を含むように形成される。(屈折率の値を適切に選択することによって)ファイバ内の(1つまたは複数の)内側クラッド層に沿って伝搬する迷光を屈折させて、薄い外側クラッドに入るようにする。外側クラッド層の寸法が薄いため、迷光の存在に伴う被覆の加熱を最小限に抑えるように、迷光が制御された漸進的な形で外側被覆内に「漏出する」ことが可能になる。本発明のファイバは、迷光の被覆内への移動を助けるために湾曲させることもできる。

Description
Claims (15)
- 迷光の除去を容易にするように構成された光ファイバであって、
光信号を実質的に閉じ込め、伝搬するためのコア領域と、
前記コア領域を囲む内側クラッド層であって、前記コア領域の屈折率より小さい屈折率を示す内側クラッド層と、
前記内側クラッド層を囲む薄い外側クラッド層とを備え、前記内側クラッド層に沿って伝搬する迷光を捕捉するために、前記内側クラッドの屈折率より小さい屈折率を示し、捕捉された迷光を前記光ファイバから制御可能に放散させるように選択された厚さを有し、さらに、
前記薄い外側クラッド層を囲む外側被覆を備え、前記薄い外側クラッドによって捕捉された前記迷光が、該外側被覆内にその伸張長さ全体にわたって徐々にトンネリングし、前記迷光による該外側被覆の局所的な加熱を低減させることを特徴とする光ファイバ。 - 前記薄い外側クラッドが、前記内側クラッド層から前記薄い外側クラッド層に向かって迷光を効率的に移動させるための複数の散乱位置をさらに備えることを特徴とする請求項1に記載の光ファイバ。
- 前記内側クラッドと前記薄い外側クラッドの間の開口数が、0.15〜0.33の範囲内であることを特徴とする請求項1に記載の光ファイバ。
- 前記薄い外側クラッド層が10μm以下の厚さを示すことを特徴とする請求項1に記載の光ファイバ。
- 前記薄い外側クラッド層が5μm以下の厚さを示すことを特徴とする請求項4に記載の光ファイバ。
- 前記外側被覆がポリマー材料を含むことを特徴とする請求項1に記載の光ファイバ。
- 前記内側クラッド層と前記薄い外側クラッド層の間に、屈折率について実質的にステップインデックス型の違いが存在することを特徴とする請求項1に記載の光ファイバ。
- 前記内側クラッド層と前記外側クラッド層の間の屈折率の差が約0.0167であることを特徴とする請求項7に記載の光ファイバ。
- 前記薄い外側クラッド層が、前記内側クラッド層との境界面から前記外側被覆層に向かって値が減少するグレーデッド型の屈折率の分布を示すことを特徴とする請求項1に記載の光ファイバ。
- 前記薄い外側クラッド層が、前記内側クラッド層との境界面から前記外側被覆層に向かって値が増加するグレーデッド型の屈折率の分布を示すことを特徴とする請求項1に記載の光ファイバ。
- 複数の別個の光信号を組み合わせ、関連付けられた伝送ファイバへの信号入力として複数の信号を提供するテーパ付きファイバ束であって、
複数の光信号の伝送を維持するための複数のファイバを含み、少なくとも1つのファイバが実質的にシングルモードの光入力信号の伝送を維持し、前記ファイバの各々が、
関連付けられた光信号を閉じ込め、伝搬するためのコア領域と、
前記コア領域を囲み、前記コア領域の屈折率より小さい屈折率を示す内側クラッド層と、
前記内側クラッド層を囲む薄い外側クラッド層とを含み、前記内側クラッド層に沿って伝搬する迷光を捕捉するために、前記内側クラッドの屈折率より小さい屈折率を示し、捕捉された迷光を前記光ファイバから制御可能に放散させるように選択された厚さを有し、前記ファイバの各々はさらに、
前記薄い外側クラッド層を囲む外側被覆を含み、前記薄い外側クラッドによって捕捉された前記迷光が、該外側被覆内にその伸張長さ全体にわたって徐々にトンネリングし、前記迷光による該外側被覆の局所的な加熱を低減させることを特徴とするテーパ付きファイバ束。 - 前記テーパ付きファイバ束が、クラッド励起型ファイバの増幅器に対する入力として利用され、前記複数のファイバが、実質的にシングルモードの光入力信号の伝送を維持するための信号ファイバを備え、残りのファイバが一連の別個のポンプ信号の伝搬を維持することを特徴とする請求項11に記載のテーパ付きファイバ束。
- 前記テーパ付きファイバ束が、高出力の大きいコアの伝送ファイバに対する入力として利用され、前記複数のファイバの各ファイバが、入力レーザ信号の伝送を維持するために利用され、その後、前記高出力の大きいコアの伝送ファイバ内で組み合わされることを特徴とする請求項11に記載のテーパ付きファイバ束。
- 少なくとも1つのコア領域、内側クラッド層および外側ポリマー被覆を含む光ファイバに沿って伝搬する迷光を制御可能に除去する方法であって、
前記外側ポリマー被覆のすぐ内側に薄い外側クラッドを含むステップと、
少なくとも前記内側クラッド層に沿って伝搬する迷光を、前記薄い外側クラッド層内に捕捉するステップと、
前記迷光による前記外側被覆の局所的な加熱を最小限に抑えるために、前記迷光を前記外側ポリマー被覆内にその伸張部分に沿って徐々に放散させるステップとを含み、前記漸進的な放散が少なくとも前記薄い外側クラッドの厚さによって制御されることを特徴とする方法。 - 前記迷光の前記外側ポリマー被覆内への前記漸進的な放散をさらに制御するために、ファイバを湾曲させるステップをさらに含み、曲げ半径を大きくして、前記外側クラッド層から前記外側ポリマー被覆への迷光の移動を増大させることを特徴とする請求項14に記載の方法。
