また補強環71は、図3(b)に示すように金属線材をコイル状に巻いたコイルスプリング71’を用いてもよい。この場合、コイルスプリング71’は円環状となるように形成し、閉環状とすれば、コイルスプリング特有のバネ特性により図3(a)に示す補強環71と同様に拡径及び縮径方向の弾性力を保有し、この弾性力により、剛体同士の嵌め合いの時に生じるような嵌合面の傷付きや変形が生じにくく、嵌合力が比較的小さくてもセット力があり、組付がスムーズ且つ容易にできる。
以上によれば、従来のような金属板からなる補強環のように、プレス加工により形成するものとは違うので、加工が容易で加工コストを低減することができる。
補強環71の断面形状は円形状の他、三角形状、四角形状等の多角形状でも採用可能で特に限定されるものではないが、例えば円形状のものであれば、シール部材72を取付ける際に取付け方向を気にせずに固着させることができる。

またシール部材72として、弾性を有する軟プラスチック類を採用してもよく、これを射出成形し、補強環71に一体固着する構成としてもよい。

円環状の金属線材からなる補強環と、該補強環に固着一体とされる弾性材製シール部材とよりなり、上記補強環は拡径及び縮径方向の弾性力を保有し、この弾性力をして前記固定側部材の周体に弾性嵌装可能とされ、一方、上記弾性材製シール部材は弾性シールリップを備え、上記補強環の固定側部材に対する嵌装状態ではこのシールリップの先端側が前記回転側部材の周面に弾接若しくは近接するようにし、これにより前記軸受部の開口端部及び/若しくはその近傍部位を覆うようにしたことを特徴とするカバーシール。
