Abstract
本発明は、インクジェットインク組成物に優れたスミア(擦れ汚れ)耐性を賦与するコア−シェルポリマーを提供する。
【解決手段】
本発明によれば、(1)ガラス転移温度が−50〜+110℃のコア(12)と、(2)前記コア(12)を包囲するシェル(14)とを有するポリマー粒子(10)が提供される。前記コア(12)は少なくとも1つの層からなり、該層は、少なくとも1つの重合した疎水性モノマーと、任意に第1架橋剤とから構成される。前記シェル(14)は、少なくとも1つの疎水性モノマー及び少なくとも1つの親水性モノマーからなる共重合混合物と、架橋結合(16)を形成することで熱せん断安定度を高めるための第2架橋剤とから構成される。水性インクジェットインク中にこのポリマー粒子(10)を用いることで、いかなる二次的な処理を施すことなく、レーザ印刷品質がもたらされる。

Description
本明細書において定義するとき、用語「耐水性」は、水による希釈あるいは除去に対する、印刷物の耐久性を意味する。水堅牢性のインクは、吸水したり(wick)、滲んだり、あるいは洗い流されたりする傾向が低い。耐水性は、印刷領域を水で濡らして、水への露出前後の隣接領域の光学濃度(OD)(「バックグラウンドOD」と定義する)を測定することによって、計ることができる。
本明細書に開示される実施態様においては、安定なポリマー粒子は、ちょうど安定性を維持するのに十分な比較的少ない量の親水性あるいは荷電性の基と表面基を混合させることができるように、シード重合法によって調製される。
メチルメタクリレート(17.07g)及びヘキシルアクリレート(17.07g)を、水(11.4ml)に添加したイソオクチルチオグリコレート(0.17g)と一緒に混合した。これを30%Rhodafac RS710含有水(1.63g)を用いて乳化させた。このエマルションを、過硫酸カリウム(0.2g)を含有する90℃の水(125ml)が入っている反応器に添加した。それを90℃の反応器中で30分保持した。この段階では、シード、即ちコア、の粒子は180nmであることが確認された。次いで、さらに過硫酸カリウム(0.1g)を添加した。直ちに、30%Rhodafac RS 710含有水(0.5g)を、メチルメタクリレート(3.33g)、ヘキシルアクリレート(3.33g)、エチレングリコールジメタクリレート(0.17g)、メタクリロイルオキシエチルサクシネート(1.7g)及びイソオクチルチオグリコレート(0.05g)が添加された水(2.85g)に加えて別のエマルションを調製し、前記反応器に添加した。それをさらに1時間90℃で保持し、周囲温度まで冷却した。次いで、十分な量の水酸化カリウムを添加して、それをpH8.5にした。粒径は210nmであることが確認された。

Claims (14)
- (1)ガラス転移温度が−50℃〜+110℃の範囲内にあり、少なくとも1つの重合した疎水性モノマーと、任意に、第1架橋剤とを包含する少なくとも1つの層からなるコア(12)と、
(2)前記コア(12)を包囲しており、少なくとも1つの疎水性モノマー及び少なくとも1つの親水性モノマーからなる共重合混合物と、熱せん断安定度を高めるための第2架橋剤とから構成されるシェル(14)と、
を有しているポリマー粒子(10)。 - 前記コア(12)が、1〜4層から構成されており、前記層の各々が、少なくとも1つの重合した疎水性モノマーと、任意に、前記架橋剤とを包含し、前記少なくとも1つの重合した疎水性モノマー及びもし存在すれば前記架橋剤が、前記層の各々において同じであるか又は異なっている請求項1に記載のポリマー粒子(10)。
- 前記コア(12)が、少なくとも1つの親水性モノマーを20wt%未満の量でさらに包含している請求項1に記載のポリマー粒子(10)。
- 前記少なくとも1つの重合した疎水性モノマーが、(1)炭素原子1〜50の炭素長を有するアルコール及び置換アルコールのアクリル酸エステル及びメタクリル酸エステル、(2)スチレン及びその誘導体、及び(3)ブタジエン及びその誘導体、から成る群から選択されている請求項1に記載のポリマー粒子(10)。
- 前記コアにおける前記少なくとも1つの層が、少なくとも2つの前記重合した疎水性モノマーからなる請求項1に記載のポリマー粒子(10)。
- 前記コア(12)における前記少なくとも1つの重合した疎水性モノマーが、前記シェル(14)における前記少なくとも1つの重合した疎水性モノマーと同じであるか又は異なっている請求項1に記載のポリマー粒子(10)。
- 前記少なくとも1つの重合した疎水性モノマーが、それぞれ、アクリル酸、メタクリル酸、モノメタクリロイルオキシエチルサクシネート、モノアクリロイルオキシエチルサクシネート、モノメタクリロイルオキシエチルフタレート、モノメタクリロイルオキシエチルマレアート、メタクリロイルオキシエチルホスフェート、アクリルアミド酪酸、3−ビニル安息香酸、4−ビニル安息香酸、4−ビニルフェニル酢酸、リン酸ビニル、スチレンスルホン酸、酢酸ビニル、アクリロイルオキシプロピオン酸、ヒドロキシエチルメタクリレート、ヒドロキシエチルアクリレート、2−ビニルピロリドン、2−スルファトエチルメタクリレート、1−ビニルイミダゾール、イタコン酸、マレイン酸、無水マレイン酸、アクリルアミド、アクリルアミドプロパンスルホン酸誘導体、及び2000未満の低分子量ポリ(エチレングリコール)メタクリレート及びその誘導体、から成る群から選択された酸含有モノマーから成る群から選択されている請求項1に記載のポリマー粒子(10)。
- 前記第2架橋剤が、前記第1架橋剤と同じであるか又は異なっている請求項1に記載のポリマー粒子(10)。
- 前記第2架橋剤の濃度が、前記共重合した親水性モノマーの含有量をベースとして、約0.1〜10wt%の範囲内にある請求項1に記載のポリマー粒子(10)。
- 前記コア(12)の厚さが約10〜350nmの範囲内にあり、前記シェル(14)の厚さが約2〜400nmの範囲内にあり、前記ポリマー粒子(10)の総合的な厚さが約50〜500nmの範囲内にある請求項1に記載のポリマー粒子(10)。
- 前記コア(12)が前記ポリマー粒子全体の約5〜95wt%を構成し、前記シェル(14)が残余分を構成している請求項1に記載のポリマー粒子(10)。
- 前記コア(12)における前記ポリマーから、前記シェル(14)における前記ポリマーへの急激な組成変化があるか、又は前記コア(12)における前記ポリマーから、前記シェル(14)における前記ポリマーへ変化する際に組成勾配が存在する請求項1に記載のポリマー粒子(10)。
- 各重合において、前記少なくとも1つのモノマーの約0.01〜10wt%の量で存在する少なくとも1つの開始剤が用いられる請求項1に記載のポリマー粒子(10)。
- ビヒクル及び少なくとも1つの着色剤からなるインクジェットインクであって、前記ビヒクルが少なくとも1つの共溶媒及び水からなり、前記着色剤が染料及び顔料から成る群から選択されており、前記インクが請求項1に記載のポリマー粒子をさらに包含し、前記ポリマー粒子の前記インク中における濃度が、前記インクジェットインクをベースとして0.1〜10wt%の範囲内にあるインクジェットインク。
