上記する従来の銃床パッドは、射撃時における反動衝撃を緩和する目的において、専ら、クッション性の改善のみを念頭におき、銃床部の端面にクッション性の高い弾力性のあるゴム材による銃床パッドとして提供されてきている。このクッション性のみを重んじた銃床パッドは、射撃時における衝撃・振動吸収性の面において充分なものではなく、しかも、弾力性を基礎としている点において、銃床部を肩にあてがう際、固定安定性に欠けるという問題点を有していた。
