Field of the Invention The present invention relates to a head having a head front member including a ball striking surface, and a head body having a hollow metal shell fixedly integrated with the head front member and having an open front. The present invention relates to a golf club head having a double-structured face in which a reinforcing plate is provided on the back side of a ball striking surface of a front member.

In this method, two plate-shaped members are welded to each other at their outer peripheral portions so that a narrow space is formed therebetween, and the two welded members (face units) are fitted into the openings of the head main body. It is to be welded. The thickness of each plate of the face unit is set to 1.5 to 2.
It is said that even if the thickness is as thin as 0 mm, the strength and durability are secured and the flight distance can be improved. Also, the relationship between the front plate (impact side) and the back plate (backup side) of the face unit is such that when the front plate warps backward and returns to the original shape after hitting, it is pushed backward by the front plate. Since the warped back plate returns to the original shape while pushing the front plate forward, the repulsive force of the two plates (front and back plates) is applied to the ball to extend the flight distance.

At this time, a bead is generated with the welding, and the bead is cut or polished to cut the head body. It must be finished to match the contour of the opening. Further, since the face unit thus finished is fixed to the opening of the head main body by welding the outer periphery of the back plate (backup member) to the opening of the opening, the edge of the opening is fixed. If the dimensions do not exactly match the dimensions of the outer peripheral edge of the face unit, some parts may not be welded.

In this manner, forging is performed a plurality of times so as to produce a forged (cavity) iron, thereby forming a prototype of the hitting surface portion 2, the extension portion 3A, and the hosel 7. In the state shown in FIG.
A reinforcing plate 4 of, for example, titanium alloy having a thickness of 1.0 to 2.5 mm
Is fixed to the back surface 2 </ b> A of the hitting surface 2. The fixing means of the reinforcing plate 4 performs arc welding on the upper and lower sides and / or the left and right sides of the outer peripheral edge of the reinforcing plate 4. Next, the hosel 7 is also drilled so that the shaft is attached as shown in FIG. Alternatively, a flat plate having a desired thickness may be punched into a predetermined shape, formed by bending, and finished in a shape as shown in FIG.

It is preferably applied to a driver's head, and a material having a small specific gravity, for example, a metal material having a specific gravity of 5 or less can be suitably used for enlarging the head. The thickness of the ball striking face 2 is 1.0
The reason for setting the thickness to 3.0 mm is that the reinforcing plate 4
When welding to the back surface 2A, sink marks may occur and the striking face 2 may be deformed, and if the thickness exceeds 3.0 mm, sufficient bending is not obtained without changing the thickness of the conventional striking face,
This is because it is difficult to achieve excellent flight. When used as a driver, the head volume is preferably 230 cc or more, especially around 250 cc. Considering strength and head weight, 350 cc is the limit. The club length is usually 43.5 inches, but is preferably 44 inches or more, preferably 4 inches.
It is preferably 5 inches or more. However, 5
If the length is 0 inches or more, it will not be possible to swing completely, which is not preferable.

The bulge radius is preferably 0 to 350 mm and the bulge radius is preferably 250 to 350 mm. The reinforcing plate 4 fixed to the back surface 2A of the hitting surface 2 having such a roll radius and bulge radius is slightly smaller than the shape of the back surface 2A. Good, hitting surface 2
As in the case of (1), it may have a curved surface protruding in the same direction, or may have a flat plate shape. When the back surface 2A of the ball striking surface 2 is formed in a dish shape, is the same as the dish-shaped curved surface,
It is preferable to give a gentle curved surface to the surface of the reinforcing plate 4. When the radius of the curved surface of the reinforcing plate 4 is smaller, the outer peripheral edge of the reinforcing plate 4 to be welded floats from the back surface 2A of the striking face 2 and cannot be welded. In addition, when the gap between the back surface 2A and the reinforcing plate 4 is increased, when the striking face 2 is thin, deformation is apt to occur, and a gap of 2.0 mm or less is preferable. like,
It is preferable that the reinforcing plate 4 also has a roll and a bulge formed in the same direction.

It is also preferable to increase the thickness. The head main body 5 is made of a material having substantially the same chemical components as the main metal of the head front member 1.
And the thickness of the end 3A of the extension 3 is 0.5 to 1.0 with respect to the thickness of the opening edge 6.
Preferably, the thickness is 1.0 mm or more and 3.0 mm or less. 1.0 to 3.0 at least almost uniformly
It is preferably bordered by a width of mm. This end 3A
If it is too thin, sinks may occur due to welding, making it difficult to weld, and if it is too thick, the head weight will be heavy.

A concave portion may be formed in the portion of the back surface 2A of the portion to be welded, this concave portion is formed so as to match the entire outer peripheral edge of the reinforcing plate 4, and the entire outer peripheral edge is welded. Is also good. In addition, as described above, when forming the welds vertically or horizontally symmetrically with respect to the center of the reinforcing plate 4, the width of one welded portion is preferably at least 30 mm or more and 100 mm or less. This is because if the number of welded portions is small, the reinforcing plate 4 may come off when the striking surface 2 is deformed at impact and pressed against the reinforcing plate 4. If the entire periphery of the reinforcing plate 4 is welded, the weight is excessively biased toward the striking face 2 or the head becomes heavy, which is not preferable. In order to prevent such an increase in weight, a plurality of holes can be made in the reinforcing plate 4 to reduce the weight.

It is preferable that there is the above. On the other hand, it is difficult in terms of strength to make the head 35 mm or more behind considering the head weight. FIG. 6 illustrates the depth of the center of gravity, that is, the depth of the center of gravity and the height of the center of gravity. To make the center of gravity depth 25-35mm,
It is preferable to provide a weight in the hollow portion of the head body 5.

The head front member 1 was made of a forged material (SP700) (titanium alloy). Horsel 7

m and a width of 2.0 mm. The thickness of the end 3A of the extension 3 was 2.0 mm. Furthermore, the thickness near the center of the ball striking face 2 was 1.8 mm. The roll radius of the projecting curved surface of the ball striking face 2 was 300 mm, and the bulge radius was 300 mm. The back surface 2A of the hitting surface 2 is also formed with a dish-shaped recess along the roll radius and the bulge radius of the hitting surface 2. The reinforcing plate 4 was made of rolled material SP700, and had a thickness of 1.5 mm. The reinforcing plate 4 is attached to the back surface 2A.
Was subjected to arc welding in an argon atmosphere. Welding positions are above and below the ball striking face, upper width 50 mm, lower width 80
mm. The maximum gap between the back surface 2A of the ball striking face 2 and the reinforcing plate 4 was about 0.5 mm. A golf club was manufactured by joining a shaft to the head thus manufactured. Table 1 below shows specifications of the golf club of the present invention and a club to be compared.

The drop distance refers to the distance from the ball hitting the ball from the tee-up point to the position where the ball dropped. The total flying distance indicates a distance to a position where the ball has rolled and stopped after falling. As shown in Table 1, as a result of trial hitting a club under almost the same conditions,
An increase in the flight distance was observed in the club equipped with the head of the present invention.
