2. Description of the Related Art Conventionally, as a metal head such as an iron head, a metal wood head and a putter, a method of simultaneously and integrally manufacturing the head itself by forging or lost wax casting, and a method of forming the head into several parts. It is a general method to divide and mold by forging or lost wax casting, and then to integrate and manufacture by welding. Of these conventionally known heads, the former integrally manufactured head is generally formed using the same kind of metal material appropriately selected from carbon steel, stainless steel, aluminum alloy and the like. Also, in the latter type of head which is divided into parts, the welding between different metals is also made of the same material due to problems such as distortion due to a difference in thermal expansion coefficient and difficulty in welding due to a difference in melting temperature. That was common.

On the other hand, recently, a head made of titanium or a titanium alloy having a low specific gravity but a high strength has been known.
Among these types of heads, particularly, in the case of a metal wood type head, since the volume of the head itself can be increased due to its low specific gravity, a head having a large sweet spot can be supplied. Also, among the heads, even in the case of the iron head type, the head itself can be enlarged and the weight can be distributed to the peripheral portion of the head, so that a head having a large sweet spot can be supplied.

However, in these titanium and titanium alloy heads, since the price of titanium itself is expensive, there has been a demand for an inexpensive and popular head. For this reason, in the head of the popular type, a head composed of a combination of different metals is known. That is, by using a material such as titanium or a titanium alloy only for the face body portion, and by configuring the head body with a material such as carbon steel or stainless steel, the weight distribution of the head itself is arranged in the peripheral portion of the head, The purpose of this head is to increase the moment of inertia of the head and increase the degree of freedom in designing the depth of the center of gravity of the head.

However, in a head composed of a combination of these dissimilar metals, distortion is likely to occur due to the difference in the coefficient of thermal expansion during welding between dissimilar metals as described above, and the melting temperature is also reduced. Due to the difference, there was a problem that the weldability was difficult and sufficient welding strength could not be obtained. Therefore, recently, Japanese Patent Laid-Open No. 6-18200
As disclosed in No. 6, the head body and the face body are made of dissimilar metals, the face body is housed in an opening formed in the face surface of the head body, and the joint between the face body and the head body is formed. A head is known in which a convex portion is formed on one side and a convex portion engaging with the other concave portion is formed by plastic deformation to prevent the face body from being pulled out.

[0008] However, these conventionally known heads have the following problems. That is, JP-A-6
In one in which a concave portion is formed in one of the joints between the face body and the head body disclosed in Japanese Patent No. -182006, and a convex portion that engages with the concave portion is formed by plastic deformation to prevent the face body from coming off, It is necessary to control the amount of plastic deformation of the convex portion by pressing pressure so as to accurately engage with the concave portion. Further, since the head body is manufactured by the lost wax casting method, the concave portion and the convex portion are easily damaged, and the molding process is performed. There was a problem that it took time and effort.

In addition, a concave groove or fine unevenness is formed on at least one of the inner peripheral surfaces of the concave portion of the head body disclosed in Japanese Patent Application Laid-Open No. 6-246021, and an extra portion is formed on the peripheral edge of the face surface of the face body. The head body is pressed in the recess of the head body to crush the surplus portion and cut the concave groove or fine unevenness into the other surface. In order to crush these extra portions into the concave grooves or the minute uneven surfaces, it is necessary to set a high press pressure, and the head body itself may be deformed. In addition, there is a problem that it takes time and labor to form a concave groove or a fine uneven surface for fitting.

Further, the outer peripheral side surface portion of the opening of the head main body and the outer peripheral side surface portion of the face body disclosed in Japanese Patent Application Laid-Open No. H10-155949 have vertical shapes, and the face body is formed with an opening on the face surface of the head main body. Insert into the recess,
At the same time, the adhesive is applied, and the surplus portion provided on the outer peripheral portion of the head main body is expanded by plastic deformation only on the side surface of the concave portion of the head main body by press working, and the head body is press-fitted with the head main body, Since the head shape is asymmetrical, the concave side surface of the head body cannot be evenly protruded, and it is very difficult to uniformly apply the press-contact strength to the outer peripheral portion of the face body. Also, when trying to eliminate the gap between the face body and the head body by a fitting method that has uneven projections on the concave side surfaces of the head body, the press load is adjusted according to the part with the least amount of deformation. When set, a portion having a large amount of deformation causes excessive deformation, and there is a problem that a face body which is usually harder than the head main body and which dislikes deformation is deformed. Therefore, in a head of a type in which these face bodies are fitted to the head body,
It has been desired to provide a head which is easy to operate, has a stable and strong integration strength, and a method of manufacturing the same.

According to this method, unlike the conventional method, there is no need to accurately control the amount of plastic deformation of the excess portion, and there is no need to worry about the plastic working of the face body. Further, there is no need to complicately shape the side surfaces of the concave portion of the head main body and the outer peripheral side surfaces of the face body. Therefore, even when the head main body is molded by the lost wax casting method or the like, there is no loss of parts due to the concave portion and the second portion, and it is possible to realize a significant improvement in workability in the conventional process. Further, the problem of the gap in the conventional method of press-fitting and bonding integrated with the head body concave portion and the face body outer peripheral side surface being made into a vertical shape is solved by using a soft material for the face body and actively performing plastic working. It could be solved by using it.

Further, the strength of the integration of the head body and the face body is such that the joining surface between the head body and the face body of the caulked portion has a new surface and is capable of normal elastic fitting because of caulking accompanied by plastic deformation. Excellent in binding properties. Since the joining surface is not flat but microscopic, the anchoring effect is obtained. Furthermore, the effect of the elastic fitting due to the residual strain after the plastic working is superimposed, so that an excellent integration strength can be obtained as compared with other methods.

Further, by using a soft material having a Vickers hardness of Hv 100 or less for the face member, plastic deformation of the face member can be performed smoothly. Further, by softening the face body, a buffering effect of softening the hitting sound can be obtained. More preferably, in a golf club head in which the head body and the face body are formed of a metal material, and the face body is fitted into a recess formed in the face surface of the head body, around the opening of the recess in the head body. It has a surplus portion, and the side surface of the concave portion of the head main body is formed in a vertical shape, the shape of the outer peripheral side portion of the face body made of a soft material is formed in a vertical shape, and the face body is formed in the concave portion of the head main body. After the installation, the surplus portion around the opening is plastically deformed by press forming, and at the same time, the face body plastically deforms, and the head body and the face body are caulked and fitted together, and The head body and the face body are fitted by plastically deforming the part, thereby protruding the side surface of the concave part of the head body and plastically processing the face body made of a soft material. There is a method of manufacturing a golf club head according to claim Rukoto.

By adjusting the distance between the side surface of the concave portion of the head main body and the outer peripheral side surface of the face body, the plastic deformation portion is extended to the side surface portion of the face body, and the range over which the effect is obtained is widened. Therefore, stronger integration strength can be obtained. Specifically, when the distance between the side surface of the concave portion of the head main body and the outer peripheral side surface of the face body is controlled to 0.3 mm or less, the effect of enlarging the plastic deformation portion can be obtained. Finally, when the face body is installed in the concave portion of the head body, if an adhesive is interposed between the two, a stronger and more stable integration strength can be obtained. In addition, the presence of the adhesive can provide a buffering effect for softening the hitting sound.

That is, compared to the conventional method, there is an effect that the component processing is easier and the dimensional design of the component can be easily performed. In addition, the problem of strength due to the problem of gaps in the conventional method of simply preventing retaining and the method of press-fitting and bonding integrating the head body concave portion and the face outer peripheral side surface into a vertical shape is soft to the face body. By using the raw material and positively using the plastic working, a sufficient integral strength could be provided. Further, a soft hitting sound could be obtained by using a soft material and an adhesive.
The present invention simultaneously satisfies the properties of easy part processing, easy dimensional design of parts, sufficient integration strength, and soft hitting sound.
