PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce a putty material for surface preparation which is not hydrated even by kneading with water, prevents trouble in hardening time by combination with a special hardening accelerator and can be hardened and dried in a short time when it is applied to a substrate by blending gypsum which hardens by hydration reaction with a synthetic resin which does not promote the hydration reaction, an inorganic filler, a pigment, etc. SOLUTION: The putty material does not harden in a kneaded state using water and a special hardening accelerator is used so that the putty material causes hardening reaction immediately after contact with the hardening accelerator and can be hardened and dried in a short time (1 hr). Since hemihydrate gypsum as the principal stock of the putty material has defects such as structural viscosity unsuitable for the putty material when it is kneaded with water, working properties are improved by adding a pH adjusting agent, a structural viscosity improver and a water retaining agent.
