Field of application

The present invention is applicable in the technical field of anti-inflammatory compositions for topical use, and particularly relates to an anti-inflammatory composition, an anti-inflammatory bandaging device, a kit comprising this anti-inflammatory composition and this bandaging device.

State of the art

The use of sprinkling a clay mud on the body surface for cosmetic and anti-inflammatory purposes has been substantially known from prehistoric times. With its drying the superficial dead cells are removed. Over time, more suitable types of clay have been selected.

It has also been known since ancient times to add some active ingredients, for example of vegetable origin, to this clay mud, but not only for particular topical treatments.

For example, the addition of arnica both in vegetable form and in the form of an extract obtained from it, to the clay is known in order to create a composition with an anti-inflammatory effect for topical use for the treatment of joints, tendons, muscle bands or other areas of the body prone to inflammation or trauma.

In any case, the composition in the form of mud or with a plastic consistency is generally applied directly to the skin of a user, be it a human patient, or an animal, for example a racehorse after a competition. The application is maintained in the plastic form for a time sufficient for the transmission of the active ingredients and the reabsorption of sinuvial fluids.

These known compositions, even if selected from centuries of experience, do not allow an effective anti-inflammatory treatment.

First of all, their preparation, of an extemporaneous type, does not guarantee the constancy of the composition and homogeneous distribution of the active ingredients and therefore the constancy of its effectiveness.

For example, the evaporation rate of the water contained in the clay depends on its structure. Rapid evaporation involves pulverization of the composition and its detachment from the user's skin with the drawback of both an interruption of the transdermal transmission of the active ingredients and of dirtying the clothes or the environment.

Secondly, the assimilation of the active ingredient is of little entity as most migrate towards the outside and not towards the user's skin.

This is generally remedied by covering the application with a sheet of paper held by a fabric or a film of polymeric plastic material. In this last case, since the material is not transpiring, it can generate problems due to excessive humidity.

Although in this way the composition is confined to avoiding soiling, the assimilation of the active ingredient is equally not optimal and more generally the effectiveness of the anti-inflammatory treatment is poor.

Furthermore, after a few hours of application, the known compositions tend not to remain attached to either the skin or the polymeric sheet with the consequence of dirtying during use and / or upon removal of the polymeric sheet itself.

A further drawback of known bandaging or packaging devices is that they do not allow the preservation of the same and / or of the anti-inflammatory properties for long periods of time.

Presentation of the invention

The purpose of the present invention is to at least partially overcome the drawbacks illustrated above, providing a composition for topical use with a highly effective and low-cost anti-inflammatory effect.

Another object of the present invention is to provide a composition for topical use with an anti-inflammatory effect which remains in plastic form.

Another object of the present invention is to provide a bandage device with an anti-inflammatory effect of high efficacy and low cost.

Another object of the present invention is to provide a bandage device with an anti-inflammatory effect that does not dirty.

Another object of the present invention is to provide a method for manufacturing a bandage device with an anti-inflammatory effect of high efficacy and low cost.

Another object of the present invention is to provide a method for manufacturing a bandage device that does not dirty.

Another object of the present invention is to provide a kit for packaging the bandage device which allows its preservation.

These purposes, as well as others which will become clearer in the following, are achieved by a bandaging device and by a method of manufacturing it, as well as by a composition in accordance with what is described, illustrated and / or claimed herein.

The dependent claims define advantageous embodiments of the invention.

Detailed description of some preferred embodiments The active composition comprises a first active substance and carrier and at least a second substance containing one or more active principles.

The first active substance and carrier is a clay. According to the invention, the type commonly known as white kaolin is preferred among the clays. It is a particular type of clay substantially composed of aluminum hydroxy silicate. It is able to adsorb a significant amount of water becoming pasty and adhere to both human and animal skin.

Conveniently, the kaolin used can be sterile. It has shown healing and soothing properties due to its ability to neutralize viruses and bacteria by preventing their proliferation, to promote skin and blood regeneration, and to disinfect infected sores. It is also endowed with rebalancing, remineralizing and stimulating properties. Applied on the skin in a layer of three or four millimeters, it has the property of absorbing the heat of an inflammation and by hardening it promotes the resorption of swelling.

According to the invention, the composition may comprise at least 50% by weight of the first active substance and carrier, preferably an amount between 50% and 80% by weight.

The second substance, which may contain one or more further active ingredients, may be, for example, an extract of medicinal plants.

In the present patent the term officinal plant means medicinal or officinal or aromatic plant or vegetable.

By extract we mean a solution of the active ingredients in a suitable solvent obtained by placing the plant in contact with the solvent at a temperature and for a time and in the appropriate plant / solvent ratio, each of these parameters being specific for each plant species and known to those skilled in the art. After extraction, by filtration, the liquid extract substantially ready to be used in the subsequent preparation of the composition is separated from the exhausted vegetable. The latter is not used.

According to the invention, solvents compatible with each other can be used as solvents for the extracts, preferably water, ethyl alcohol or glycerol.

Among the plants from which to extract the active ingredients by extraction can be used roots and leaves of devil's claw (Harpagophytum procumbens), leaves and flowers of arnica, mint leaves, sage leaves, thyme, helichrysum, stems and lavender flowers. As known, these plants may have astringent, analgesic and anti-edema effects.

In the extraction operation, the quantity by weight of vegetable is comprised between 20% and 50% of the quantity by weight of solvent used.

The active composition comprising kaolin and extract is obtained by mixing the kaolin with only the aqueous extracts without adding further water in addition to that present in the extracts. In this way the composition exhibits a plastic consistency with an optimal, malleability, and formability. Thanks to this feature, the composition can best adhere to the area of the skin to be treated regardless of the shape of the latter.

According to the invention, the amount of extract in water is between 20% and 50% by weight of the composition, preferably between 20% and 40% by weight. Preferably no other water is used. In this way, a high concentration of active ingredients is obtained in the composition and a more effective transdermal transmission which, like motion, is linked to the concentration of the substance that must migrate.

The active composition may also include extracts of roots and leaves of devil's claw (Harpagophytum procumbens), leaves and flowers of arnica, mint leaves, sage leaves, thyme, helichrysum, stems and lavender flowers in ethyl alcohol and extracts of one or more of the previous plants in glycerol.

Preferably, according to the invention, alcohol extracts of arnica leaves and flowers and devil's claw roots and flowers can be added to the composition in quantities between 2% and 5% by weight.

Even more preferably, extracts in glycerol of leaves and flowers of arnica, roots and flowers of devil's claw, thyme, sage can be added in quantities between 0.1% and 5% by weight.

Preferably but not necessarily, the glycerol is of vegetable origin.

Of course, the composition of the active ingredients of the same plants in the extracts depends on the solvent even if all are polar and compatible with each other. The composition indicated above has shown a significant synergistic effect with respect to the use of the aqueous extract only.

It is also understood that the active composition may comprise mixing aids, co-formulants, for example essential oils, preservatives, bactericides.

For example, extracts or essential oils of officinal or aromatic plants in quantities lower than 1% can be used, for example to impart a more pleasant perfume or appearance.

After application, the composition can be covered externally with an elastic containment and protection fabric.

In addition to containment, the fabric must allow controlled transpiration so that the composition maintains the plastic / pasty state for a few hours, without favoring the proliferation of agents that can have pathogenic effects.

Preferably, according to the invention, the elastic containment fabric is a needled non-woven plastic material preferably composed of viscose and polyester. This fabric, in addition to being breathable, is able to retain a large amount of water, sometimes its own weight, and adhere to the composition. In addition, the controlled evaporation of the water contained in the composition over time establishes a moisture gradient in the section of the applied layer that allows the migration of the active ingredients along this moisture gradient towards the user's skin in an effective and optimal way.

Preferably, the elastic containment fabric is free from bacterial contamination.

According to an aspect of the invention, the composition can be included in a bandage device for an anti-inflammatory treatment.

Referring to the attached figure, the bandage device 1 for the anti-inflammatory treatment of a user's area essentially comprises an active composition and a support fabric 2 to support the active composition.

It is understood that the user can be a human being as well as an animal, for example a horse. In fact, the device can be used for anti-inflammatory treatment in humans or animals.

For greater simplicity, reference will be made to the human user below.

For example, the bandage device 1 can be used to treat joints, tendons, muscle bands or other areas of the body subject to inflammation or trauma.

The active composition can be distributed or spread on the support fabric 2. In particular, as better explained below, the composition can adhere to the fabric 2 so as not to detach from it even during application to the user.

Conveniently, the active composition can be arranged only on one face 3 of the same. In this way, during use, one face 3 of the fabric 2, the active face 3, will be able to come into contact with the active composition and therefore interact with the area of the user's skin to be treated, while the opposite face 4, face inactive, it may be devoid of the composition, ie remain substantially clean.

Thanks to this feature it will be possible to avoid getting dirty and / or soiling other users and / or objects and / or clothes.

The support fabric 2 may have different dimensions depending on the intended use. Some typical applications of the bandage device 1 are the back of a horse, the leg of the horse or the arm or leg of a human.

It is understood that the fabric 2 can be obtained from a large sheet or from a roll or from a reel 2 'in a per se known manner.

Conveniently, the bandage device 1 can adhere to the user without the need for additional fastening means. In other words, the use of tapes, knots, hooks, adhesives or the like normally used in bandages can be avoided.

Furthermore, if the bandage device 1 is wrapped around an arm or a leg of the user, a portion of the active face 3 can come into contact with a portion of the inactive face 4 so that the bandage device 1 itself has a high adhesion.

In other words, the bandage device 1 alone will be able to make a self-supporting bandage without the aid of further closure elements.

Operationally, it is possible to couple a predetermined quantity of active composition with the fabric 2. For example, it is possible to prepare a quantity such as to obtain a layer of 3-4 mm of active composition.

As mentioned above, the active composition can remain coupled to the fabric 2 and not detach during the application operations of the bandaging device 1 itself.

Eventually, the fabric 2 can be treated before being coupled with the active composition in order to favor mutual coupling.

The fabric 2 can be soaked in a substance comprising water and the same active ingredient contained in the active composition for a predetermined time interval, for example, for about 30 minutes.

For this purpose, a suitable container may be provided configured to contain this substance and the fabric 2.

Subsequently, preferably immediately after this step, the same fabric 2 can be coupled with the active composition.

Conveniently, the fabric 2 can be folded so that the active face only comes into contact with an active face 3, and so that the inactive face 4 comes into contact only with an inactive face 4. In this way, even when folded, it will be possible to prevent the bandage device 1 from getting dirty, allowing at the same time simplicity and ease of use.

Optionally, immediately after folding, the bandage device 1 can be inserted into an airtight container 8 which can be immediately sealed. The hermetic container 8 can be made of plastic material and can be impermeable to water vapor.

Thanks to these characteristics, the characteristics of the bandaging device 1 can be preserved.

In fact, the water contained in the composition is necessary to maintain the plastic appearance of the composition but it is essential for the migration of the active ingredients to the user. Evaporation makes the composition ineffective.

Thanks to the hermetic container 8, the bandage device can be disposable and can be stored for a long period without losing effectiveness.

In other words, a kit 10 may be provided comprising the bandage device 1 and the hermetic container 8.

In addition, thanks to the features described above, the user will be able to have a bandage device with an optimal amount of active ingredient and an optimal consistency in order to make the composition easily spreadable.

According to a particular aspect of the invention, the bandage device can be inserted into the container in a sterile manner. In other words, the bandage device stored in the hermetic container can be sterile so that the user can use it safely when needed.

It is therefore possible to prepare a bandage device with components in particular of the active composition, water and active ingredients, carefully dosed during preparation thus increasing the effectiveness and therefore decreasing the quantities used and the related costs.

Example 1

1 kg of white kaolin is placed in a mixer and then added 407g of aqueous extract of arnica, 7 g of aqueous extract of mint leaves, 1.4 g of glycerol extract of sage leaves, 1.4 g of glycerol extract of thyme, 11.5 gr of adjuvants. Everything is mixed for 30 minutes. The mixture obtained, which has a malleable plastic consistency, is discharged from the mixer and is spread on a previously wetted sterile viscose and polyester non-woven fabric to improve the adhesion of the clayey mixture to the fabric. The non-woven fabric with the dough is placed in a plastic container that is impermeable to water vapor in order to preserve the water content of the dough.

Example 2

With the procedure described in the previous example, 1 kg of white kaolin is mixed with 291 g of aqueous devil's claw extract, 13 g of aqueous arnica extract and 20 g of mixing aids. As in the previous example, the non-woven fabric with the mixture is packaged in a container made of plastic material impermeable to water vapor in order to preserve the contents in water.

From what has been described above, it is clear that the invention achieves the intended purposes.

The invention is susceptible of numerous modifications and variations. All the details may be replaced by other technically equivalent elements, and the materials may be different according to the needs, without departing from the scope of protection of the invention defined by the attached claims.

Claims (10)

CLAIMS 1. Anti-inflammatory composition for topical use comprising or consisting of: - a first active substance and carrier; - a second substance comprising at least one medicinal plant extract; wherein said first active substance and carrier is comprised between 50% and 80% by weight of said composition and said second substance is comprised between 20% and 50% by weight of said composition. 2. Composition according to claim 1, wherein said first active substance and carrier is white kaolin. 3. Composition according to claim 2, wherein said medicinal plant extract is an extract in water of a medicinal plant belonging to the group comprising roots and leaves of devil's claw (Harpagophytum procumbens), arnica leaves and flowers, mint leaves, sage leaves, thyme, helichrysum, lavender stems and flowers or mixtures thereof. 4. Composition according to claim 3, further comprising at least one ethyl alcohol extract of a medicinal plant belonging to the group comprising devil's claw roots and leaves (Harpagophytum procumbens), arnica leaves and flowers, mint leaves, sage leaves, thyme, helichrysum, lavender stems and flowers or mixtures thereof in a quantity comprised between 2% and 5% by weight of said composition. 5. Composition according to claims 3 or 4 further comprising at least one glycerol extract of a medicinal plant belonging to the group comprising roots and leaves of devil's claw (Harpagophytum procumbens), leaves and flowers of arnica, mint leaves, sage leaves, thyme, helichrysum, lavender stems and flowers or mixtures thereof in a quantity comprised between 0.1% and 5% by weight of said composition. 6. Composition according to any one of the preceding claims, wherein said extract of one or more officinal plants is obtained by infusion in said solvent water or alcohol or glycerol of at least one of said officinal plants in quantities ranging from 20% to 40% by weight of said solvent. A bandaging device (1) applicable to the skin of a user for the anti-inflammatory treatment, comprising an active composition according to one or more of the preceding claims and a support fabric (2), said composition being arranged on a first face (3 ) of said support fabric (2) intended to interact with the user's skin. 8. Device according to the preceding claim, wherein said support fabric (2) is a breathable fabric, preferably non-woven viscose and polyester fabric for obtaining a predetermined transpiration speed. A method for making a bandage device (1) according to claim 7 or 8, comprising the steps of: - preparation of an active composition; - preparation of a support fabric (2); - coupling of said active composition with said support fabric (2) by depositing the first on a first face (3) of the second so as to form the bandage device (1). 10. A kit including: the. an airtight container (8); ii. a bandage device (1) according to one or more of claims 7 and 8 disposed inside said hermetic container (8).
