In campo odontoiatrico e durante la pratica clinica di ogni giorno, l’igienista dentale si trova a dover eseguire una prevenzione primaria e secondaria nei confronti delle patologie del cavo orale che riguardano i tessuti duri e molli dei propri pazienti. Attraverso un’attenta revisione della letteratura scientifica, emerge che sono sempre maggiori gli studi che correlano la salute orale con quella dell’organismo della persona e sono sempre maggiori i rischi in cui i pazienti possono incorrere se non mantengono una buona igiene orale, sia dal punto di vista dei patogeni che interessano denti e gengive sia di quelli che possono interferire provocando malattie sistemiche.
