TITOLO   TITLE

PIATTAFORMA DI ACCESSO ALLA SUPERFICIE ESTERNA DI UN VEIVOLO  PLATFORM FOR ACCESS TO THE EXTERNAL SURFACE OF A VEHICLE

DESCRIZIONE  DESCRIPTION

SETTORE TECNOLOGICO   TECHNOLOGICAL SECTOR

[001] The present invention relates to the field of access platforms for aircraft, in particular the access platforms to the external surface of the aircraft, even more particularly to the fuselage and wings of the aircraft.

STATO DELLA TECNICA   STATE OF THE TECHNIQUE

[002] The state of the art includes various solutions for accessing the outer surface of the aircraft. In particular, there are numerous fixed structures in the state of the art that are installed around an aircraft during assembly or extraordinary maintenance activities. These fixed solutions conceptually resemble scaffolding that is installed around buildings for maintenance or construction activities. These structures are made of metal and take a long time for both assembly and disassembly.

[003] In the state of the art there are also mobile solutions that allow maintenance to be carried out on aircraft. The known mobile platforms comprise wheels to be able to move with respect to the ground and can comprise an access platform with variable height. Each of these platforms has the common drawback of not guaranteeing the safety of the operator carrying out maintenance once he leaves the platform and climbs onto the external surface of the aircraft. An example of this type of platform is provided by document US2009‐0078502 which describes a platform with a platform with variable height and variable shape according to the portion of the aircraft to be maintained. However, this solution has the drawback that the operator cannot leave the platform to get on the external surface of the aircraft, otherwise he would run the risk of falling.

[004] There are also solutions which, to remedy the aforementioned inconvenience, bind the operator to a safety cable, in order to safeguard the operator from any impact with the ground in the event of a fall from the aircraft. An example of this type of solution is provided by document WO2017203349. This patent application describes an apparatus capable of following the movement of the operator and ensuring his safety while working on a surface at height. Nonetheless, this solution solves the problem of constantly ensuring the safety of the operator who is on an external surface of the aircraft, but with a more complex and consequently more expensive system.

[005] Finally, there are also state-of-the-art solutions capable of allowing an operator to access curved surfaces of the aircraft, such as the fuselage, ensuring their safety but preventing them from moving freely on the surface itself. An example of this is provided by document CN206871383U. This document describes a curved ladder that allows the operator to reach any height of a fuselage of a specific aircraft and to descend from the opposite side of the fuselage via another curved ladder connected to the first. This solution has the drawback that the operator remains bound to operate on the aircraft from the ladder itself, that is, it is unable to move on the outer surface of the aircraft to carry out, for example, maintenance on a larger area than the outer surface of the aircraft. Furthermore, the solution is not adaptable to various types of fuselages, but is born and can be used only on a type of aircraft determined in advance.

[006] None of the known solutions solves in an economic and functional way the problem of allowing an operator to reach, disembark and operate on an external surface of the aircraft in complete safety. No solution guarantees the operator to be able to move freely on a large external surface of the aircraft for inspection and maintenance activities.

SUMMARY The aforementioned drawbacks of the prior art are now solved by a mobile platform for working at height on an external curved surface of an aircraft. Said platform includes: a landing platform raised above the ground and crowned at least in part by a railing comprising an opening on one side; at least one flight of stairs configured to allow access to the landing platform from the ground; a support structure configured to support the platform and at least one flight of stairs; a plurality of wheels at least in part that can be braked to move / lock the support structure to the ground; a pair of bulkheads cantilevered with respect to the support structure on the side of said opening of the railing so that said bulkheads are parallel to each other and arranged above the height of said platform. Further drawbacks are solved thanks to the details and technical characteristics of the present invention as provided by the dependent claims.

ʹ ʹ

A second object of the present invention is to solve the problems of the prior art by means of a safe access system for an external curved surface of an aircraft comprising two mobile platforms in accordance with the first object of the present invention, in which the bulkheads of said movable platforms are shaped in such a way as to form together with the railings of said platforms a substantially closed work enclosure on said external curved surface of the aircraft, when said platforms are arranged aligned one in front of the other on opposite sides of said curved surface.

[007] These and other advantages will emerge in more detail from the description, made below, of an example of embodiment given by way of non-limiting example with reference to the attached drawings.

DESCRIZIONE DETTAGLIATA   DETAILED DESCRIPTION

͵ ͵

[008] The following description of one or more embodiments of the invention refers to the attached drawings. The same numerical references in the drawings identify identical or similar elements. The object of the invention is defined by the attached claims. The technical details, structures or characteristics of the solutions described below can be combined with each other in any way.

[009] With reference to Figs. 1, 2, 3 and 4, a mobile platform 1 is illustrated for working at height, ie on a surface which is at least 2 meters away from the ground. In particular, said platform 1 is intended to be used for accessing curved and external surfaces 2 of the aircraft, such as the fuselage or wings. These curved surfaces 2, as such, are dangerous in the event of an operator 21 climbing, and maintaining balance on them is not easy. This phenomenon occurs in particular when the curved surface 2 is slightly wet, since the external surfaces of the aircraft are notoriously smooth for reasons of aerodynamics.

[0010]  Poiché  le superfici esterne dei velivoli,  in particolare quelle ricurve sono pericolose per  l’accesso  a piedi di un operatore 21,  risulta  sentito  il problema di evitare  la  caduta dall’alto  dell’operatore 21 stesso che effettua attività, ad esempio di manutenzione, su aree estese della  superficie esterna del velivolo. Per questa e altre  ragioni è  fornita una piattaforma mobile 1  comprendente:  ‐ una pedana di sbarco 4 soprelevata rispetto al terreno 9 e coronata almeno  in parte da una  ringhiera 5 comprendente da un lato un’apertura 6;  ‐ almeno una rampa di scale 11 configurata per consentire l’accesso alla pedana di sbarco 4 dal  terreno 9;  [0010] Since the external surfaces of the aircraft, in particular the curved ones, are dangerous for the access on foot of an operator 21, the problem of avoiding the fall from heights of the operator 21 himself who carries out activities, for example of maintenance, on large areas of the external surface of the aircraft. For this and other reasons a mobile platform 1 is provided comprising: - a landing platform 4 raised above the ground 9 and crowned at least in part by a railing 5 comprising on one side an opening 6; - at least one flight of stairs 11 configured to allow access to the landing platform 4 from the ground 9;

‐ una struttura di sostegno 7 configurata per supportare  la pedana 4 e  l’almeno una rampa di  scale 11;  - a support structure 7 configured to support the platform 4 and at least one flight of stairs 11;

- a plurality of wheels 8 at least partially brakeable to move / lock the support structure 7 to the ground 9; - a pair of bulkheads 10 cantilevered with respect to the support structure 7 on the side of said opening 6 of the railing 5 so that said bulkheads 10 are parallel to each other and arranged above the height of said platform 4.

[0011] Specifically, said mobile platform 1 comprises a support structure 7 comprising in turn a series of vertical uprights and horizontal crosspieces joined together to form a three-dimensional reticular structure which overall has a parallelepiped shape, like a scaffolding. This mobile platform has a base to which a plurality of wheels 8 are connected for moving the platform 1 with respect to the ground 9.

[0012] These wheels 8 can be braked, ie comprise at least one device for locking the rotation of the rollers of one or more of said wheels 8. By activating said at least one device, the horizontal movement of the platform 1 is prevented, safeguarding the operator 21 during said activities on the curved surface 2 of the aircraft 3.

[0013] Said support structure 7 supports a landing platform 4 in a raised manner with respect to the ground 9. The landing platform 4 is crowned at least in part by a railing 5 to protect the operator 21 from falls from above when he located on the platform 4. The railing 5 comprises an access passage and a landing opening 6 to allow the landing, that is to say access to the external surface 2 of the aircraft 3. Said landing platform 4 is slidingly connected to said landing structure support 7 so as to allow vertical movement of the platform 4 with respect to the support structure 7.

[0014] Said mobile platform 1 can also comprise one or more flights of stairs 11, i.e. sequences of steps connected together, in which each sequence of steps can be interspersed with a threshold to reverse the direction of ascent and limit the overall dimensions in plan of the mobile platform 1. In the version shown in the attached figures, the ramp 11 is only one, ie the sequence of steps is one. Said flight of stairs 11, i.e. said sequence of connected steps, is structured to allow access to the landing platform 4 from the ground 9, i.e. it extends from an area close to the ground 9 up to an area close to the landing platform 4.

[0015] The support structure 7 is configured to support said at least one flight of stairs 11, as illustrated in Figures 1 to 6. In the version illustrated in Figures 1 to 6, the flight of stairs 11 is solidly connected to the structure support 7 and allows access to an intermediate floor 18 also connected to the support structure 7. From the intermediate floor 18 the operator 21 can then go up or down on the landing platform 4 depending on the height at which he is said landing pad 4.

7.  [0016] Alternatively, the flight of stairs 11 can be supported directly by the landing platform 4 or by the support structure 7 and the landing platform 4 together, as illustrated in fig. 7.

[0017] In the version of ladder 11 illustrated in figure 7, the ladder has two parallel supports 11 'rotatably connected to each other on the right and left sides of each step 11'. The set of steps 11 'and parallel supports 11' creates an articulated quadrilateral structure capable of changing the inclination of the flight of stairs 11 and therefore its height, while maintaining the steps horizontal to the ground. The upper end of said parallel supports 11 'is connected to the landing platform 4, so that by raising or lowering the platform 4, the lower end of said ramp 11 rests on the ground, while said upper end moves together with the platform 4 .

[0018] As an alternative to the ladder with an articulated quadrilateral structure, it is possible to use a ladder with variable height and inclination or an extendable ladder, or even a pantograph ladder, among those available on the market.

[0019] The mobile platform 1 can comprise a lifting device 14 configured to modify the height of said landing platform 4 with respect to the ground 9. Said lifting device 14 can comprise a winch 14 having a cable (not shown) connected to said landing platform 4 so that the operation of the winch involves a lifting or lowering of the platform 4 with respect to the support structure 7. Said winch 14 can be manually or motorized, for example with an electric motor, and can be anchored to the support structure 7.

[0020] Said support structure 7 can also comprise one or more stabilizers 13 as illustrated in Figures 1 to 7. This at least one stabilizer 13 allows to fix the position of the mobile platform 3 with respect to the ground 9 even in the absence of braking wheels 8 . If the wheels of the mobile platform 3 are not of the brake type, one or more stabilizers allow the platform to be locked to the ground 9 for the ascent and descent on the aircraft 3 by the operator 21. Even in the presence of type wheels 8, one or more stabilizers allow the support structure 7 to be secured to the ground 9 in a more secure manner, for example, when the ground is not perfectly flat and only two or three wheels touch the ground 9.

[0021] In each of the embodiments described above, or a combination thereof, the mobile platform 3 provides two bulkheads 10 which protrude with respect to the support structure 7. Said bulkheads 10 are cantilevered with respect to the support structure 7 on the same side in which the opening 6 of the railing 5 is located. Since the opening 6 of the railing 5 is located on the front side of the mobile platform 3, the bulkheads 10 are also cantilevered in the frontal direction. Specifically, the bulkheads 10 are connected to two opposite sides of the support structure 7, even more specifically, the bulkheads 10 are connected to the railing 5, which is in turn integral with the platform 4 which is connected to the support structure 7, as shown in the figures. The bulkheads 10 are developed laterally with respect to the walking surface of the landing platform 4. Imagining that the operator 21 lies in the center of the landing platform 4 with his face and body oriented towards the opening 6, he would have a first bulkhead 10, frontally to the left a second bulkhead 10, to its right, to its left and behind it the railing 5. This arrangement of the safety members makes the permanence of the operator 21 completely safe, when the mobile platform 3 is approached to the aircraft 3, so that the landing platform 4 is flanked by the curved surface 2. Since the landing platform 4 is next to the curved surface 2, the operator 21 can safely access the curved surface 2, since the bulkheads 10 guarantee its safety during landing on surface 2, as illustrated in Fig. 8 and 9.

[0022] The bulkheads 10, when they are cantilevered with respect to the support structure 7, are parallel to each other, as clearly illustrated in Fig. 1. The bulkheads 10, in a particular version of the mobile platform 1 can be mobile and assume several operating positions. The bulkheads 10 are parallel and cantilevered with respect to the support structure 7 in their open operating condition, when the mobile platform 1 is flanked by the aircraft 3, as illustrated in fig. 8 and 9 in which in the center of figures 8 and 9 there are two platforms with cantilevered open bulkheads. Said operating position for opening the bulkheads 10 is illustrated with the letter A also in Fig. 10. The bulkheads 10 can also assume a first rest position in which the bulkheads 10 are closed and substantially coplanar with each other to block at least in part the opening 6 of the railing, to prevent an operator 21 from falling from the platform 3, when the same is not next to the aircraft 3, as illustrated in Fig. 5. Between said bulkheads 10 safety chains 22 can be provided to close the residual gap of the opening 6 not closed by the bulkheads 10. Fig. 10 shows the first rest position of the bulkheads 10 with the letter B. The bulkheads 10 can also assume a second rest position, in which said bulkheads 10 are substantially parallel to each other and side by side to the support structure 7, see the mobile platform 3 which is located on the right in Fig. 9. In F Fig. 10 shows the second rest position of the bulkheads 10 with the letter C. [0023] With reference to Figures 8, 9 and 10, the operating position for opening the bulkheads 10 (position A) allows safe access from the landing platform 4 to the curved surface 2 of the aircraft 3, when the platform 1 is adjacent to the aircraft 3 and in particular to its curved surface 2. The first rest position of the bulkheads 10 (position B) allows the operator 21 not to falling from the mobile platform 1 when this is distant from the aircraft 3. The second rest position of the bulkheads 10 (position C) allows the operator 21 to place alongside the mobile platform 1 with curved surfaces that do not allow the cantilevered opening of the bulkheads 10, since they would impact, in a horizontal direction, other elements of the aircraft 3, for example the rear fin of the aircraft 3.

[0024] In order to be rotatable with respect to the railing 4 and with respect to the support structure 7, said bulkheads 10 are hinged with the railing 4 or the support structure 7, by means of hinges 15 having vertically oriented axes of revolution.

[0025] To prevent accidental or unwanted movements of the mobile platform 1 from damaging the aircraft 3 with the bulkheads 10, the bulkheads comprise a fender 12 in plastic material, preferably in elastomeric material, so that any impacts of the lower part of the bulkheads 10 during the positioning phase of the mobile platform 1 alongside the aircraft 3 do not cause damage to the latter. In a particular version, not shown, the fenders also extend to the front side of the bulkheads 10, to prevent frontal impacts of the bulkheads 10 with the aircraft 3 during the approach phase of the mobile platform 1 to the aircraft 3. Said fender 12 can be shaped accordingly with the shape of the curved surface 3 of the aircraft 2.

[0026] In its operating position, the landing platform 4 is positioned at a height from the ground 9 such that an operator 21 is able to access the curved surface 2 of the aircraft 3 without climbing or making particular effort.

[0027] With reference to Figs. 8 and 9, a second purpose of the present invention is a safety access system 20 for an external curved surface 2 of an aircraft 3. Said system 20 comprises two mobile platforms 1 in accordance with the above described. To form said safe access system 20, said mobile platforms 1 are arranged opposite each other in an aligned manner, i.e. so that the two openings 6 of the railings 5 face each other and said bulkheads 10 are two by two aligned with each other, as shown in the center of Fig. 9. When the mobile platforms 1 are arranged according to this scheme, the assembly consisting of the railings 5 and the bulkheads 10 of the mobile platforms 1 forms a work enclosure 19 substantially closed on said external curved surface 2 of the aircraft 3. When said mobile platforms 1 are arranged aligned with each other and facing each other, the mobile platforms 1 are located on opposite sides of the curved surface 3 of the aircraft 2. [ 0028] It is clear that the present mobile platform 1, as well as the present safety access system 20 can also be used for different curved surfaces from those of an aircraft, for example to the curved surfaces of a train or bus, for example their roof.

[0029] In conclusion, it is clear that the invention thus conceived is susceptible of numerous modifications or variations, all falling within the invention; furthermore, all the details can be replaced by technically equivalent elements. In practice, the quantities can be varied according to the technical requirements.
