Process for the preparation of the dichloride of S-5-[[2- (acetyloxy)-1-oxopropyl]amino]-2,4,6-triiodo-1,3-benzene dicarboxylic acid of formula I <IMAGE> substantially comprising the reaction between the chloride of S-(-)-[2-(acetyloxy)]propionic acid and the dichloride of 5-amino-2,4,6-triiodo-1,3-benzene dicarboxylic acid in dimethyl acetamide in the presence of hydrochloric acid.
